Company description Eco2 is a fully equipped dive centre which operates a fitted fibreglass dive boat and traditional African sailing dhow. Manager of the centre is marine biologist Dr Martin Guard. He has worked and researched on the coral reefs in the region since 1995 and is a PADI dive instructor with over 15 years experience. The dive centre follows the highest standard of safety procedures. VHF radios provide communication between dive boats and the shore and a full medical kit, oxygen unit and life jackets are kept onboard each boat. The dive centre has full liability insurance and is a member of the Diver Alert Network (DAN)
Snorkelling and diving is conducted outside of Mikindani Bay and inside the Mnazi Bay-Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park. Normally we dive twice a day although a third dive or a night dive can be arranged. Diving in the marine park incurs a $10 per day entry fee. Training is provided for all PADI SCUBA courses up to instructor level

Marine research, survey training and environmental education is an integral part of the eco2 dive centre. The following projects along the coast
1) Marine surveys of the Songo-Songo Archipelago
2) Marine surveys of the Mnazi Bay –Ruvuma Estuary Marine Park
3) Study of the Artisanal Octopus Fisheries of Tanzania
4) An assessment of live coral mining and lime production in the Kilwa and Lindi and Mtwara Districts.
5) An evaluation of the potential for alternative lime production in the Kilwa and Lindi districts
6) Environmental Impact Assessment and survey of the proposed underwater gas pipeline in Mnazi Bay, Mtwara
Eco2 also conducts specialist training in fish and marine life identification and coastal and marine survey techniques.
Volunteers are encouraged to get involved with the eco2 research programme

Location description: Some of our dives:
1. Outer Reef and Big Blue - Steep drop offs with large schools of pelagics. Whale sharks and manta`s regularly seen. Extensive spur and groove system literally covered in reef fish and abundant marine life
2. Channels Reefs - Forests of giant seafans in deeper water, spectacular cliffs of `photogenic` foliose and plate coral with large coral promontories in the shallows.
3. Pinnacles - Extending to the depths (150m), architecturally impressive columns and walls that make the descent feel like skydiving.
4. Coral gardens - Amazing variety of patch reefs of different character including staghorn dominated and mixed coral gardens teeming with fish life.
