Company description
HIGHTIDE Watersports was established in 1993 by Willie Hewitt and is located at the prestigious Coral Reef Club. The business is now operated by Willie`s partners Gavin Smith and Martyn Norsworthy. By providing quality service to its guests, HIGHTIDE Watersports has become the most recognizable name in Barbados Scuba Diving. We believe that no other dive shop can offer and deliver better service, nicer people, or safer procedures.
HIGHTIDE is committed to providing divers with the kind of professionalism and personal attention they expect from a first-rate dive operation. All of our instructors and dive masters are certified by PADI, adhere to the latest standards in safety, and are trained in First Aid and CPR. Plus we believe in no-hassle diving for our guests. We will set up your equipment, load it on our boat, and after your dive we will wash and stow your equipment. You need only to enjoy your dive and your holiday!
We at HIGHTIDE Watersports are extremely sensitive to the natural marine environment and expect the same of divers in our care. We are active in creating mooring buoys for all to use on many of the dive sites we visit. Our staff is respectful of the reef environment and strive to instill this respect in all the new divers we introduce to the underwater world.
We are the official headquarter dive centre assisting with the Barbados Sea Turtle Project. Our Guests, Our Team and Marine Biologists help these Hawkbill Turtles to survive. A year-round program (Tues, Thurs & Sat). Non-divers are welcome to join in. This is part of the Padi Project Aware
We are also members of PIRA (PADI International Resort Association #17146). PADI stands for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, which is the largest scuba diving certification in the world. That means that you can expect your instructor to follow standards and procedures developed by the world leader in scuba training. If you would like to visit PADI`s website, see them on our partner`s page.

Location description:
Barbados has long been known for it`s white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue waters, friendly smiles and, of course, rum! One of it`s lesser known but by no means lesser quality attractions is it`s beauty beneath the seas.
Barbados lies in the Atlantic Ocean; unlike it`s neighboring Islands which are mostly volcanic, Barbados was built entirely out of coral. Year after year, decade after decade and century after century, coral life and death built Barbados up from the ocean depths. This building process is still continuing and can be witnessed in huge 6 ft barrel sponges, gigantic sea fans, black corals and hundreds of tropical fish that adorn every crack and crevice on it`s fringing and barrier reefs which circle the island.
Most of the diving activity in Barbados occurs on the west and south coasts. The east and north coasts most of the year take the full fury of the Atlantic Ocean and the easterly trade winds, making for spectacular waves and breath taking scenery. The south coast, being partially sheltered from these trade winds, lends itself to moderate seas and currents; while the west coast, being totally sheltered, is generally like a pond. Whether you dive south or west you`ll be in for a treat.
The premier wreck of the Caribbean is the S.S. Stavronikita. She is 365ft long and sits bolt upright in 130ft of water off the west coast. This wreck dive is a must. Cabin, alleyways and the cargo holds beckon you to peek. The enormous masts which come to within 20ft of the surface are coated with sponges, corals and hundreds of fish. This is one dive you cannot miss.
Some of dive sites:
*Maycocks Bay
Large coral reefs separated by corridors of white sand. Rays, Barracuda, Parrot fish, large schools of Bermuda Chub and other tropicals. A fantastic dive site.
*S.S. Stavronikita
365ft of cabins, passenger-ways, mast and fish. Thrills galore. Arguably the Caribbean`s Number One wreck dive.
*Pamir
A relaxed comfortable dive. Enjoyable for all divers - 165 ft long, 60 ft down. Fish, fauna, and fun in one experience.
*Silver Bank
A healthy coral reef. Beautiful fish, sea fans and the Atlantis Submarine for a diving companion. A memorable Dive.
*Dottin
A very popular reef. Beautiful corals, hundreds of schooling fish, Barracudas and turtles. A very relaxing and enjoyable dive.
*Carlisle Bay
Home to five shallow wrecks; the Berwyn, Ctrek, Eillon, Bajan Queen and the Fox. Abundant with tropicals, small groupers and eels. Rare species such as frog fish, bat fish and sea horses. A macro photographer`s dream.
*Bell Buoy
Large dome shaped reef ranging from 20 to 60ft, huge 8ft brown coral tree forests, gentle sloping corals and friendly schooling fish. Fun for all.
*Cement Factory
A very unique dive. The pier of our cement factory at first may seem an unusual dive site, but lobsters, sea horses, frog fish, flying gurnards, arrow crabs, scorpion fish and more abound in this marine lovers play pen.
