Company description
Our Mission:
Whether you are a single diver or a group, our goal is to provide you with the best SCUBA dive experience possible.
Our Promise:
You will be given the personalized service and attention of a small shop with the resources of a large operation from all of Aquanauts Grenada`s dive centers. Our staff’s dedication to customer service will guarantee a carefree SCUBA dive adventure. We believe that outstanding service is the sum of many little things we pay close attention to. Our staff takes care of all gear; cleaning, storing and delivering.
Our History:
Aquanauts Grenada was founded by Gerlinde & Peter Seupel in 1997 under the name of 1st Spice Divers Grenada. We started very small with one 10m/30 foot boat â€Spice Lady†at the Secret Harbor Hotel in Grenada, at that time owned by The Moorings. The refitted Sport-fisherman “Spice Lady†was our pride and joy, nicknamed by the competition the “coffee boatâ€, because we put our customers first from start on, served refreshments on the boat and offered amenities like fresh water shower, toilet, dive platform and other amenities. We continue that service today for our guests.
In 2000 we changed our name to Aquanauts Grenada, LTD to have an international better recognized name. We started to brand this new name at dive shows and in advertisements. In 2001 we began our expansion by moving our business to Rendezvous Beach & Dive Resort – the first diver dedicated resort on the Isle of Spice. Later that year the owners of Blue Horizon Cottage Hotel & Spice Island Beach Resort offered us the opportunity to operate their dive and water sports center on Grand Anse Beach. Of course more business meant we needed a larger boat, which we luckily found in “Calypsoâ€. The first winter season on Grand Anse Beach was very busy, thus we decided we need one more boat.
In January of 2003 we got our Island Hopper, “SOCAâ€. We also invested in a new system and were the first to offer recreational NITROX on the island.
In spring of 2003 we started our relationship with True Blue Bay Resort, where we were welcomed warmly from the first day. The small start turned out to become a big center rather quickly. In late 2003 the Rendezvous Beach Resort was sold to a private Club. We then moved our main base to True Blue Bay Resort. This makes True Blue Bay Resort now the only diver dedicated resort in Grenada.
With growing demand, we added the US-built Seahawk boat “Salsa†to our fleet in spring of 2004. SCUBA dive groups and SCUBA dive packages with True Blue Bay Resort and Blue Horizons Cottage Hotel had become our business. Having a calendar full with bookings for the fall of 2004 and a good outlook for the upcoming season, we went ahead and refurbished our store at Grand Anse, increasing rental and retail space.
Today Aquanauts is not only the longest continuously in business dive center in Grenada under the same ownership but also the SCUBA dive operation leader on the island of Grenada. With our fleet of three custom dive boats, three large compressors, a NITROX system, top of the line SCUBAPRO rental equipment and two modern retail shops we are one of the most sophisticated dive centers in the Caribbean diving region. We take pride in serving costumers at the highest level.
In the effort to protect the environment; Aquanauts Grenada`s’ crew installed and maintains moorings on Grenada’s dive sites, supports the Ocean Spirit Turtle Project and works on wreck and shark awareness programs. Regularly beach and underwater clean ups are organized under the patronage of Aquanauts with the participation of the local community and special awareness programs offered to school children.
We are looking into a bright future and are happy to welcome you to show you the beauty of our world under water!
Location description:
There are more than 30 dive sites in Grenada! Whether you like to dive wrecks, reefs, or be a little adventurous and do a shark dive, Grenada has what you want!
Our favorite dive sites:
*Bianca C wreck
The Bianca C was a 600 feet long cruise ship travelling the oceans since 1949 last owned by the Costa Line Genua/Italy. On her last voyage in October 1961 while anchoring off St. George`s she caught fire after an explosion in the engine room. In a selfless response of the town all passengers and crew but two members of the crew, burnt in the initial blow, were rescued and taken care of by the hospitality of the Grenadiers. In failed attempt to tow the luxury cruise liner to shallow waters, it sank to 160 feet where it lies today. It is possible to dive the wreck right into the swimming pool at 130 feet as a no decompression dive. Because of its size it is not possible to see her completely in one dive. The central structure has been collapsed downward and to starboard. There are plenty of deck features to explore, like the promenade decks. While moving forward you pass the davits overgrown with elegant black coral trees, delicate hydroids and sponges. The top of the bow is at 90 feet and the foremast is still standing upright usually populated with large schools of fish and circulated by barracudas, jacks and mackerels. Since sometimes strong currents floating over her and because of the depth, it is a dive for advanced and experienced divers only.
*HEMA
The freighter HEMA 1 sank on March 5. 2005 on its way to Trinidad. It now lays in the Atlantic current just a few miles off the south coast and soon will become one of the major dive attractions for Grenada. Already sharks have been sighted cruising the wreck, it is expected to facilitate a quick coral growth and will become home for rays, turtles, moray eels and lobsters.
*Shakem wreck
One of the newer wrecks in Grenada`s collection, which sank on May 30th, 2001 after a troubled journey from Trinidad to Grenada overnight. The load of cement bags shifted and the vessel went down just in sight of the harbors entrance. As it lays perfectly on keel at a bottom of 110 feet with its many hatches, open bridge, hallways, galleys, cabins, freight rooms and crane it is the perfect playground for wreck lovers.
*Wreck San Juan
The wreck of an 80 ft. inter island fishing vessel, also known as the Shark Wreck lies in 90 feet of water. Due to its location two miles off Grenada`s south on the Atlantic side, mostly strong currents sweep over it. A school of rainbow runners will guide you the way to the small boat laying in the middle of nowhere on a plateau. The 1975 sunken vessel is packed by nurse sharks of all sizes you may imagine up to 9 feet. The storm in 2004 moved it a bit and broke it in two pieces, but nevertheless it still is a spectacular dive.
...and many more.
