Company description
AKR is a PADI Gold Palm 5-Star Instructor Development Center and has been a pioneer in the diving industry for more than 30 years. It is ranked as one of the top dive resorts in the world and boasts the following amenities:
•Modern fleet of three Custom Pro 48 and seven Pro 42 dive boats
•On-sight recompression chamber and staff physician
•Full-service photo shop
•Dive equipment rentals
•PADI continuing Educational Program that offers resort courses through IDC training
•Air-conditioned classroom facility
•Convenient dockside equipment storage, fresh-water showers and rinse tanks
•Extensive shore diving in lagoon or Front Porch reef
•Dolphin dive and snorkel opportunities through Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences
•Excursions to remote dive and snorkel destinations
Upon arrival, guests will be assigned a boat for the length of stay, each staffed with a divemaster and captain. This ensures divers see a variety of dive sites throughout the week without repetition, and enables our staff to get to know each diver’s respective needs and abilities to better serve them. A briefing on diving procedures, how to sign-up for dives on the dive board and a required warm-up dive and equipment check will be given prior to your first dive.
For over 30 years, Anthony’s Key Resort has been serving up the spirit of adventure
with relish, including diving spectacular reefs, interacting with dolphins, hiking beautiful gardens, and much more while never forgetting comfort or hospitality.
Discover what many divers, world travelers, nature lovers and active families already know. Anthony`s Key Resort is the resort designed by nature where tranquility and adventure combine for a formula that has drawn visitors back again and again.
Three decades ago, the creators of Anthony’s Key Resort envisioned a small, tropical hide-away that would allow adventurous travelers the opportunity to experience the beauty of Roatan and the Caribbean as nature intended.
Today, the resort still retains an intimacy with its surroundings that is reminiscent of a peaceful island village. Charming, wooden cabanas dot the resort’s palm studded hillside and rim its shimmering lagoon. Reached by a brief boat ride from the resort’s main grounds, the tiny islet that is its namesake features more private cabanas and spectacular ocean vistas. While a favorite pastime among guests is lazing in the cabanas’ hammocks, more active visitors can enjoy various waterports on the key’s small beach.
Back at the resort’s main grounds, the restaurant and bar are perched high on a hillside surrounded by towering coconut palms. There, more sweeping views and fiery sunsets are served up alongside delicious tropical fare. Just steps below at the waters edge are the photo, gift and dive shops, where there is dockage for a fleet of state-of-the art dive boats. A short walk from there takes visitors to the Roatan Museum and Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences, where guests can participate in educational programs and encounters with marine mammals. More inquisitive guests can join trained naturalists across the lagoon on Bailey’s Key to interact with playful dolphins and observe some of the island’s indigenous plants and animals along the key’s nature trail.
Anthony’s Key Resort’s successful blend of nature, comfort and hospitality, continues to draw return visitors and thousands more in search of tranquility and adventure.
Location description:
Tropical mountains blanket Honduras, a small, peaceful, Central American country bordered by Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. Dozens of rivers cascade down from the mountains to its wide Caribbean coast and narrow Pacific plain. Within the mountains’ green canopies ancient Mayan ruins, pristine natural reserves, and whitewashed colonial villages can be found. All are easily accessible in this country that is only about the size of Tennessee. Just off the north coast lay the Bay Islands where divers and snorkelers indulge in the splendor of unspoiled coral reefs.
Settled by Spanish colonists, Honduras is also home to Native Americans, like the Mayan Indians, and descendents of Africans brought to the country as slaves. Spanish is the country’s official language, but English is widely spoken.
With beautiful beaches, crystalline waters, untouched natural wonders and cultural encounters with ancient and colonial worlds, Honduras will satisfy the most active and adventurous travelers.
We encourage you to explore the many wonders nearby, and we`re happy to arrange your excursions. Go deep-sea fishing and land a muscular marlin. Walk around Roatan`s many villages, where most residents speak English, as well as Spanish. Behold the exquisite orchids at Carambola Gardens and the primitive reptiles at the Iguana Farm.
If you wish to venture farther, or take an overnight excursion, you might go white-water rafting down the snaking Cangrejal River. Observe West Indian manatees and white-faced capuchins at the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge. Hike through verdant Pico Bonito National Park. And examine the archaeological ruins of Copan, a Mayan civilization that thrived until 800 AD. With so much, so near, you will never run out of things to do.
Perhaps no island in the Caribbean offers more distinctive or easily accessible dive sites than Roatan. The islands reefs and drop-offs are teeming with colorful marine life and are ideally suited for novices and experts alike. The resort’s fleet of modern, custom-built dive boats whisk divers to 35 sites located just 5 to 30 minutes away. Coral grows thickly on walls that begin in crystalline waters as shallow as 10 feet deep and drop to the purple depths of the Caribbean. Squadrons of eagle ray, schools of brightly colored tropical fish, the occasional meandering shark and eel gardens are just a few of the sites that delight divers. Several large wrecks have also been recently sunk not far from the resort and now wait to be explored. With water temperatures averaging 80 degrees or better, few currents and visibility ranging from 50 to 100 feet, Roatan is a favorite among visitors who prefer their diving colorful, thrilling and comfortable.
