Company description ECOMARINE Gunters Diveshop is Utilas oldest Dive-Operation. Roland and Miri from Austria and Israel/Argentina are the owners and manage the shop.
Up to six longtime Instructors give training and classes in more than 12 languages.
We take the quality of our dive training very seriously. Therefore our classes are limited to four students per instructor which allows a safe and stress-free learning enviroment.Up to ten students per class is possible, but we would not recommend it.Our classes are 2 to 5 plus instructor and divemaster.
If you never tried scuba diving before then sure you should. Once you stick your head into the Caribbean waters you will find a world of its own. Diving has grown to be a very popular sport and you will understand why the second you try it out for yourself. Diving is easy and fun to learn, and there is an endless possibility of further education. All our courses at Ecomarine are taught by certified by instructors who are member of P.A.D.I. the worlds largest dive organization. These dive certifications are valid worldwide and will enable you to dive and rent equipment where ever you are.
Our courses:
Discover scuba-diver (PADI resort course): introduction theory, 1-2 real dives. If you don`t have time for a regular course but still want to try it out, this is your option - 1 day.
Open water (PADI open water course): classroom video & theory 2-confined water + 4 open water dives - 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 days.
Advanced open water (PADI advanced open water diver): classroom video & theory, 5 specialty dives incl. Deep- navigation-& night-dives+ lots more - 2-3 days.
Rescue diver (PADI- rescue diver): classroom videos & theory 1-confined + 4 open water dives - 3 1/2 days + 1 day for emergency response course.
Divemaster program (PADI divemaster course): classroom videos & theory 10 confined water dives + 40 to unlimited dives - 3 weeks to 2-3 months.
Assistant instructor (PADI assistant instructor): classroom class teaching videos & theory + 10 dives - 3 days.
PADI specialty: classroom theory + 4 specialty dives - 1 to 3 days
When ECOMARINE started diving Utila in 1970 we did it for fun, and that hasn`t changed. If you`re already a certified diver and looking to do some diving for fun you will find Utila refreshing.
Fun divers that dive with us have different interests than Students, so we don`t mix them all together. You will find 4 Dive boats which guaranty an uncrowded dive experience and small groups. International instructors and divemasters take care of the organization and will guide the dives. With around 85 different dive sites they can help you to discover the best spots .
The boats leave usually around 7:30 am for two dives on two different locations around Utila. If you like to sleep in, just join us for a two tank dive trip in the afternoon and should this still be to early, then enjoy the night dive.
But of course if you are desperate to get wet and watch your bottom time and dive-tables you might as well do all five of them. What ever you decide we`re here to make it possible.
In case it has been some time since your last dive you might start it easy and take part in a half day SCUBA TUNE UP Program where a divemaster will refresh some theory and skills, so you enjoy your time with us even more. There are although a wide range of Specialty Courses available:
Fun dives: 2 dives - 1/2 day US $45
Fun dives: 10 dive package open US $200
Scuba tune up: theory+1 dive - 1/2 day US $25
Deep dive specialty: theory+4 dives - 2 days US $150
Wreck specialty: theory+5 dives - 2 days US $175
Photo specialty: theory+5 dives - 3 days US $175

Location description: UTILA is surrounded by a pristine coral reef and warm Caribbean waters. Stretching all the way from Belize to Columbia and Venezuela, Utilas coral reef is sitting in the middle of the second largest barrier-reef worldwide!
Lying on the edge of a continental shelf Utila offers the most varieties of dive sites you be able to find on the Bay Islands.
In the front of Utilas only town and there friendly inhabitants stretches the protective shallow bay followed by miles of coral gardens on the south side. East of Utila you will find lots of cavern, caves and tunnel formations as well as the Halliburton Shipwreck a 115 foot cargo-vessel that sank 1997. To the west are the cays, eleven in total and great to watch a Caribbean sunset or just for a stopover and lunch break between dives.
Watercay is uninhabited and is the perfect place if you feel like going back to the times of Robinson & Crusoe and want to spend entire days not doing anything to the north of Utila on the other hand you will find all the excitement of spectacular wall dives in one of the two marine reserves. Turtle-harbor invites you with lots of marine life and outstanding walls and overhangs. Besides all that Utila offers to dive there unnumbered sea mountains scattered around the Island which are an experience for themselves.
UTILA offers all standards from basic to high class accommodation. All hotels offer 24 hours electricity and are medium class with friendly staff to make your staying as perfect as possible. What ever is lacking on infrastructure is covered by the friendliness of the Islanders and their willingness to help out where ever they can.
