Company description
In beautiful San Carlos, Mexico, Gary`s Dive Shop, established in October of 1971, was the first 100% legal, federally certificated and licensed maritime operator in San Carlos. Our twenty-nine person staff is very experienced with an average of over 12 years each with us. We have diving, fishing, snorkeling and whale watching trips, as well as bay and sunset cruises, dive instruction, rental and repair services. We are open every day, 365 days a year from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
We have seven specially designed 40` boats, two of them are very fast boats that can travel to Seal Island in about an hour, the Cortez Sun and the Cortez Explorer. In fact, the Explorer is the largest, most powerful and fastest charter boat in San Carlos. All of our boats have first aid and oxygen, water, ice, coffee, Diet Coke and we make fresh fish tacos onboard.

The Sea of Cortez (also called the Gulf of California) is a unique ocean environment formed millions of years ago when Baja California slid westward due to geological activity in the San Andreas fault. The clear, mild waters of the sea are influenced by the warm tropical eastern Pacific, and attracts many tropical marine species. We have over 800 species of fish, and over 400 species of shell, as well as several species of animals found in this unique area that occur nowhere else in the world. The Sea of Cortez is a dynamic body of water whose beaches are continually washed by the gentle waves.
The wind, and waves have carved caverns in the sides of sea cliffs, providing refuge for sea birds, and other animals. Whether you like fishing, diving, snorkeling, or observing, the Sea of Cortez holds an adventure for you. We provide you with the equipment, knowledgeable staff, and reliable vessels to help you experience that adventure.
If you`re flying, you really want to take the AeroMexico flight from Phoenix rather than Tucson, it is much cheaper, and they`re running 50 - 70% off specials through June 30. AeroMexico has round trip deals from US cities to Guaymas and return much cheaper than any US carrier we`ve yet found.
If you`re driving, it is only about four hours on our very good four lane ``interstate`` style highway from Nogales, at the border. Connections from the US are interstate I10 and I19 through Phoenix or Tucson.
When you combine the extensive marine life with the superior diving conditions in the summer and our wreck dives as well as the sea lion colony and fish life on Seal Island, I`m sure you`ll agree with me that San Carlos is one of the top diving destinations in the world in the summer, and offers a pleasant alternative to the Caribbean.
