Company description Scuba certification consists of classroom and pool instruction with a written exam and pool evaluations. Much of this time you will spend at the YMCA swimming pool learning first hand how to use the dive gear and applying the classroom principles. This is a safe and fun environment with clear visibility. There will be swimming tests with the gear above and below the water, including zero-visibility tests. By the end of this experience you will be comfortable in the underwater environment. You will be ready for four checkout dives in Lake Oahe and the Oahe Tailrace, which then completes your YMCA SCUBA Open Water classification!
Course fees include all classroom materials and use of scuba equipment. Each student is required to provide their own mask, fins, snorkel, booties and logbook. We carry a complete inventory of these items. We also have full supplies of rental gear so you may enjoy your time in the water without a large initial investment. Diving is one of the most economical sports around!

Activities include spearfishing in Lake Oahe and drift diving in the tailrace below the dam. Imagine shooting your limit of walleye above on the Lake, then exploring for ancient buffalo bones and lost lures while observing prehistoric sturgeon and playful small-mouth bass in their natural habitat during an invigorating tailrace dive. Other fish include burbot, trout, and white bass among several other beautiful species. Come visit Pierre and Skin & Scuba Oahe for your next diving adventure!
Location description: Spearfishing Regulations:
Game Fish Season: Jan. 1st -March 5th, July 1st - Dec. 31st
July & August - Spearing may occur 24 hours a day.
Limits: The daily possession limit is the same as hook and line limits (paddlefish and sturgeon not legal).
Diver-down Flag: Divers must display a diver-down flag firmly attached to a securely anchored float, tube or buoy while diving. The flag must be at least 8 inches by 10 inches and must be red with a white diagonal strip running from the upper left corner to the lower right corner.
Area: Lake Oahe from Oahe Dam upstream to the US 212 bridge. Lake Sharp from Big Bend Dam upstream to the US 14 bridge at Pierre. Licensing & Limits:
Annual resident fishing licenses are $25. Non-resident licenses are $60 with optional 3 day ($32) and 1 day ($12) licenses available.
Lake Oahe daily limit may include no more than 4 walleye/sauger 15``or longer and no more than 1 of those may be 20``or longer.
Limit is 6 daily, 18 possession.
