Our packages do not include scuba equipment. Full scuba rental packages are available from our dive shop , including Drysuites, and dive computers. Mixed Gas available upon request at additional charge.
Dive and see a piece of history! Take the plunge and dive 4 shipwrecks from World War II that were sunk by a German U-boat. These wrecks are still intact and make for a dive adventure you will never forget. A true divers treat and experience is to dive to see a dud German U-boat torpedo sitting on the bottom of Conception Bay near the Rose Castle wreck site. Being the deepest of the three oar carries sunk during this tragic event, the S.S. Rose Castle is the most spectacular. She sits upright at approximately one hundred and fifty feet almost ready to set sail as she was over sixty years ago. Lines running to her mast are still taunt, the Marconi Room’s radio is still awaiting messages, and deep in her hull one can still see personal effects of the ill fated crew. Without a doubt she is well preserved from the elements. One can visit the 4.7 inch gun located on her stern decorated in flowering sea anemones, forevermore ready for action. Cavernous cargo holds beckon the adventuresome diver, but be aware! Diving on the S.S. Lord Strathcona one is amazed by the abundance of flowering sea anemones that now decorate her decks and rails. This once proud ship is now the home to numerous sea dwellers that have taken over as crew! Similar in structure and size to the S.S. Rose Castle, which lies within one half kilometer from her, the S.S. Lord Strathcona presents the diver with the opportunity of diving on one of the most spectacular wrecks in Atlantic waters. Photographers and videographers will surely appreciate all she has to offer.
Location description: Experience the best in nature tours and diving with clear water, WWII wrecks, Atlantic marine life & seabirds, icebergs, whales and more.Some of the best diving in North America can be found in Conception Bay, a 15 minute drive from St. John’s. Here you can explore four iron ore wrecks, 140 metres in length. These wrecks were sunk by German U-Boats in WWII to destroy the valuable cargo on board. The remains of these four carriers sit upright and fully intact in the clear waters of Conception Bay. An abundance of marine life awaits you around the islands reefs, caverns and walls. For the more adventurous, we have snorkeling with the Humpbacks and diving the walls of Icebergs.Come see Whales, Icebergs, and Sea Birds, (in season) in their natural habitat! Conception Bay has rock formations that were carved by glaciers 10,000,000 years ago. If you just want to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature come to where the sun sets and the moon rises like nowhere else in the world. All this and more on Conception Bay and its Islands- Kelly’s, Little Bell, and Bell Island.
Take advantage of our Dive & Stay packages, choose from any of the dive sites in beautiful Conception Bay South, and stay at our new Bed and Breakfast. We have dive sites suitable for the beginner to the professional scuba diver. All packages include accommodations, breakfast, and lunch aboard the MV Ocean Quest, dinner is not included.
The MV Ocean Quest is equipped with an inflatable boat that can take you for in-shore rides around Islands, inlets and coves, that were once inhabited by fisherman, farmers and before that, Pirates. Experience Conception Bay up close and personal. We will take you into caves, around pinnacles, and you will even step foot on secluded beaches to find that treasure that washed ashore just for you.
There is much to see in Conception Bay, from majestic icebergs (when in season), humpback, and other whale species, various species of sea birds and bird sanctuaries, to sea seascapes and natural wonders.
