Company description Welcome to scuba diving in Crete. The dive base of Kalypso Rocks Palace is situated in the heart of the Mediterranean. The Diving center offers diving excursions for certified divers and for beginners. Always in small groups with individual care and safety.
There are no under water currents and the visibility is perfect, all this in the best underwater world of Crete.
You can book with Kalypso Rocks Palace your ``tailor made`` program with diving and accommodation.
We can reserve your Hotel, Private house with swimming pool, Apartment or Room on Crete.
In our own county Rethymno we know practically all hotels and houses from the inside and we only offer what we like.
We selected 4 Hotels and pensions in the Plakias area, where our dive base is, but if you prefer to stay in another place, just send us your email. If you do that, provide us with details, like number of persons, preferred area, category and quality and the period you want to come.
For the guest that would like to try diving or simply to visit the underwater world of Crete, Kalypso Rock`s Palace offers Introduction days.
There he / she can join our Snorkeling or Discover Scuba Diving program and maybe it`s your first step into a new world, the world under the sea level.
For the people still waiting on the ``Jump board`` a try dive is a good and safe way to experience if diving is your new holiday activity.
The special family program of Kalypso Rock`s Palace is the snorkeling day, where young and old can learn that snorkeling is not just swimming on the surface.
The Introduction days of Kalypso Rock`s Palace are running every day in the summer season.
We offer:

Each guest is given a mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit upon arrival which is theirs for the day. On the beach with their Instructor, they are given all the information they need about Snorkeling techniques and their equipment. They then follow an Instructor led Snorkeling Tour in the bay. The guests then may Snorkel all day by themselves in areas of the Bay they particularly like. This is an ideal family activity, especially loved by children. Skin Diving (Breath-held diving) is also available for guests to try in the afternoon upon request.

There is plenty of time to become familiar with the equipment with help from our staff on the beach. The guests are then assisted into the water and their very first SCUBA dive begins. Our instructors are patient and encouraging making the guest feel safe throughout their dive which consists of two parts; the first part practicing easy skills increasing confidence in the equipment and being underwater, the second is a guided tour around the bay.
Family, friends and children don`t have to stay at home, they may join the guest on a wonderful day, we call them ``The Guest``. Their excursion includes the Bus transfer to the south coast. They may follow the theory lessons given from our instructors in the open-air classroom or relax on the beach, swim in the sea or swimming pool and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Kalypso.

1. Kalypso Walls - Diving close to the cliffs of Kalypso Rock`s Palace resort.
Dive Type: Shore Dive
Minimum Certification Level: Open Water Diver or equivalent
Maximum Depth: 18m Open Water Divers / 35m Advanced Open Water or higher
Bottom Composition and Features: Descending down the anchor line to a ledge at 14m you see a spectacular walled drop off to another ledge at 40m and then the deep blue beyond where it drops to a depth of about 250m. Huge walls, small caves and overhangs make this an exciting dive.
Marine Life to be seen: Plenty of colourful small fish, various sponges, lots of vegetation on the rocks, Sea Urchins, Starfish, Fireworms, Groupers, Moray eels and occasionally Octopus and Sting Rays.
Comments: Dive to be made on the first morning.
2. Kalypso Dive - Diving close to the cliffs of Kalypso Rock`s Palace resort
Dive Type: Shore Dive
Minimum Certification Level: Open Water Diver or equivalent
Maximum Depth: 18m Open Water Divers / 30m Advanced Open Water or higher
Bottom Composition and Features: Walls and small drop offs leading on to a stony incline with small rocky vegetation covered reefs and a small gully / tunnel at a depth of 12m that may be entered by Advanced Open Water Divers or higher.
Marine Life to be seen: Plenty of colourful small fish, various sponges, lots of vegetation on the rocks, Sea Urchins, Starfish, Fireworms, Groupers, Moray eels and occasionally Octopus and Sting Rays.
Comments: Dive to be made on the first afternoon.
3. Grouper Rock - Diving on a large reef outside Skinaria Bay
Dive Type: Boat Dive
Minimum Certification Level: Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent
Maximum Depth: 40m
Bottom Composition and Features: Large reef that raises to peak at a depth of 18m with small drop offs and walls that descend to a sandy bottom between 24m and 45m.
Marine Life to be seen: Big Groupers, Moray eels, plenty of colourful small fish, various sponges, lots of vegetation on the rocks, Sea Urchins, Starfish, Fireworms and occasionally Octopus and Stingrays.
Comments: Our only dive where it is guaranteed to see big fish.
4. Night Dive - Diving from within Skinaria Bay or Kalypso Bay
Dive Type: Shore Dive
Minimum Certification Level: Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent
Maximum Depth: 25m
Bottom Composition and Features: See Skinaria Canyon or Kalypso Walls
Marine Life to be seen: Octopus, Moray eels, Shrimps, sleeping colourful small fish, various sponges, lots of vegetation on the rocks, Sea Urchins and Starfish.
Comments: None
Skinaria Canyon - Diving within Skinaria Bay
5. Shore dive / boat dive - Diving from the shore and the boat
Minimum Certification Level: Open Water Diver or equivalent
Maximum Depth: 18m Open Water Divers / 30m Advanced Open Water or higher
Bottom Composition and Features: A canyon with high walls either side, rocky and sandy bottom leading on to small drop offs and walls at the edge of the bay
and many others.
