Company description

Waterworld is Ireland`s largest diving and leisure centre - offering first class facilities and accommodation, for diving, leisure and photography - all under one roof, as well as water sports and other activities. Ronnie and Pat Fitzgibbon are Ireland`s most qualified and experienced dive operators. They began business in 1963 and have led or supervised in excess of 971,040 (October 2005) dives since without incident (a record unequalled in the industry). From years of experience, they know that divers require excellent diving, wonderful home cooked meals, luxury en-suite accommodation, but above all, good fun and old fashioned Irish hospitality - at an affordable price. Waterworld`s Harbour House & Leisure Centre has been carefully planned and has developed into Ireland`s largest and most luxurious dive and leisure centre - all under one roof. Thirty metres from the water`s edge, at the best dive location in Ireland - beauty`s home! ``The Maharees`` on the Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry. Waterworld was Ireland.s first PADI 5 Star Gold Palm Instructor Development Centre and Irelands first and only National Geographic Dive Centre and has won several industry awards, including the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004 Education Award and the 2001 & 2004 Environmental Award. Equipment is brand new and replaced each season. We have 35 complete sets of equipment and 120 cylinders; 70 cubic feet per minute compressor with air storage banks deliver air to 414 bar and Nitrox to 300 bar. One 9m hard hull diesel RIB, two 7.5m twin engines hard hull RIBs and a 12m Michell 2 dedicated dive boat, all state of the art and custom built for diving, with full electronic and safety equipment (Dept of Marine approved). Our lecture rooms are fully equipped with multimedia, TV, video, overhead projectors, 35mm slide projector, white board, flip chart, etc. Our pool was purpose built for diver training and when not being used for diver training, is also ideal for leisure. It has a depth of 9 feet in the deep end and 3`6`` in the shallow end. It is kept at a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, with your comfort in mind, making sure you`ll be comfortable during confined water diver training. For the underwater photographer, a full complement of camera`s (Motormarine, Nikonos and Nikon), strobes, lenses, housings, and lights are available for hire and in-house E6 processing is available in our own purpose built photo lab.

Location description:

The Centre is open all year round and caters for divers from beginner to the most experienced. Because the Gulf Stream washes our coast, the water temperature is much warmer than the UK and Northern Europe. It varies from 12C in the early season to 21C in late August/September. The visibility on very good days is 30m+, averages 20m and bad days is about 7m. Boats travel daily to the best dive sites. The Maharees, Brandon and the Blasket Islands offer the best diving in Ireland, from superb scenic dives to wreck dives. The Maharees have their own resident pod of playful Dolphins and they can be frequently seen cavorting in front of Harbour house. At times, they swim with divers around the islands. Illaunnabarnagh, a nearby island, has its own seal colony and the seals are friendly and don`t mind the human interloper. Here is what Jacques Cousteau said about our dive sites: ``Some of the best diving in the world is at the northern side of the Dingle Peninsula where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Brandon mountains`` ... in a landscape of exceptional beauty. ``Abundant marine life - shoals of mackerel and pollack; feeding wrasse and playful seals; lobster, crawfish and crabs; sunfish and basking sharks; schools of dolphins and pilot whales; while the reefs themselves are lit up by different varieties of sponges and anemones.
