Joschi Kiesel (born in 1947) CMAS*** - divinginstructor started the scuba diving school ``Capo Testa`` in 1980 and had been running it ever since, together with his wife
Irmi Kiesel-Hofstetter, teacher.
To be able to join us in diving outings with the inflateables it is necessary that you carry a valid diving certificate and a medical certificate guaranteeing that you are fit enough to go scuba diving.
Equipment
inflateables:
6.20 m, 40 hp, 12 people
6.50 m, 120 hp, 10 people
equipment:
15 x 15 liter and 8 x 10 liter tanks
2 compressors:
30 cum / hrs output
We run 2 diving trips daily and need a minimum of 3 people for each.
Diving trips at night time are available, too. We speak German, Italian and English
Learn to Dive: Our scuba diving courses are in accordance with the guidelines of CMAS. This means that at the end of the diving course the participant receives the internationally recognized CMAS-Certificate.
We allow a maximum of 6 participants in our beginner course.
Right from the start of the practical part of the course we go into the water.
First lesson: theory and practice of the snorkeling-equipment.
From the second lesson onwards: theory and practice of SCUBA diving.
First we start on the beach and go into the water only up to the hips to try out the equipment. Here we do the first few exercises and practical training followed by a little exploring down to about a 5 m depth.
For the lessions following we go out in an inflateable. At the end of a one week course you will dive down to a depth of 18 metres.
We can issue the CMAS** and CMAS*** after 10 normal diving trips, but of course, you will have to sit for the diving theory and written examination as well.
There are quite a few holiday homes and units in the vicinity of diving center. For instance, it is only a 10 minute walk from here to reach the village of Capo Testa where you can rent 1- and 2-bed room holiday apartments.
Baja Santa Reparata is just 150 m to 300 m away from the beach. This is a larger holiday centre with well equipped apartments and a few small villas. Within the grounds there are swimming pools, tennis courts, shops and restaurants. Baja Santa Reparata is 3 km away from our diving center, and 3 km away from Santa Teresa.
You can also stay in a holiday unit right in the small town of Santa Teresa, especially if you like the hustle and bustle of the city. In the evening you can mingle with the crowd in the Piazza, where you can just have a drink or enjoy some gelati in the ice cream parlour, go dancing or visit a pub, go window shopping or stroll along the main road and buy souvenirs from the street vendors. For your booking you can inform yourself at www.puntovacanze.it
If you are interested in staying in a very nice villa nearby Santa Teresa/Conca Verde with a beautiful view to the sea look at www.tasteofsardinia.com
But, if you just prefer to be pampered in a nice hotel, there are quite a few good ones in the area.
Location description:
The divecenter is located at the neck of the peninsula of Capo Testa on the bay at the right hand side of the peninsula, right at the water’s edge. There is a large car park within the grounds, a fresh water rinse pool and a shower.
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean and is an autonomous Italian region. The island of Sardinia is separated from the island of Corsica by the Straits of Bonifacio. The maximum North-South extension is about 270 km, from West-East 145 km.
The north of Sardinia is well known for the clear water, a lot of little secrete bays and its amazing underwater world.
The small village of Capo Testa is situated on the peninsula with the same name. This area is the most northern end of Sardinia right at the Straits of Bonifacio. This small village is part of the township of Santa Teresa di Gallura, which is about another 3 kms away.
Here, over millions of years nature created a landscape with spectacular granite bolders that is unique to Sardinia.
This bizarre and rocky landscape continues into the mediterranean basin to shape the under water scenery so characteristic for Capo Testa.
Already 2000 years ago Romans founded the town Tibula on the peninsula of Capo Testa. From there they shipped the granite to Rome. Even today one can still find remnants of the ancient quarries.
The underwater world around Capo Testa is one of the ten best diving areas in the world. Caves are shaped by gigantic granite boulders that are partly covered with red corals (corallium rubrum). Red gorgonian fans are growing on the escarpments and rock formations looking like Swiss cheese are famous for this area.
A constant current in the Straits of Bonifacio gives you a visibility of 50 m for most of the time. It is this crystal clear water with its shades of light blue to emerald green that is so unique in the Mediterranean for which this stretch of coastline is so world-renowned. Both, the beginner diver and the experienced diver enjoy diving from 15m to 40m depth. It takes only 15 minutes by boat to reach most of the 20 diving grounds around Capo Testa. Here you can see a huge variety of the Mediterranean fauna. Moray eel, conger eel, rock lobster, flat lobster, octopus, grouper, and a whole lot more will make your diving experience an especially memorable one.
In the diving literature you can frequently read about the dive to the ``Black Coral`` (Gerardia Savaglia), which is the biggest one known of its kind in the Mediterranean. The Black Coral is at a depth of only 33 m and with its 2 huge fans coming out of the escarpment it is surely a breath-taking sight.
Within 30 minutes we can take you in our fast inflateable to the underwater-nationalpark near the French island Lavezzi, which is one of the most famous diving destinations in the Mediterranean. The dive at the Grouper-Reef is unique and unforgettable, because of the huge number of groupers you will see in this area.
