Company description The diving center is at the pools of Hotel Aldiana Alcaídesa with great views to Gibraltar and the Moroccan coast. Both the hotel and the diving center are situated in a quiet residential area away from noisy tourist centers.
Happy Divers Gibraltar is open from March until November. The dive center is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 19:00 h. During the winter months December until February the dive center is closed. The other dive centers of the IDC College Costa del Sol group remain open all year.
There will be dives organized also during the winter months to the dive sites of Happy Divers Gibraltar. During that time please contact Happy Divers Marbella & IDC College.
The diving center has a friendly and inviting atmosphere and has intentionally been kept as a smaller place to guarantee individual services. Scuba diving equipment has to be carried only very short distances. To the pool it is only about 20 meters.
Happy Divers Gibraltar together with Happy Divers Marbella & the IDC College Costa del Sol are the highest rated PADI dive centers on the Costa del Sol - the only PADI Gold Palm 5* IDC Resorts. In addition Happy Divers Marbella is the first NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC dive center in Spain. Divers are taught from beginners to PADI instructor level.
The facilities of Happy Divers Gibraltar consists of 5 rooms:
Reception, shop, office and class room 1: Equipment for sale including a big variety of masks, snorkelling gear, wet suits, a lot of useful accessories, booties, swimming fashion and a lot more. Also complete scuba diving gear is on sale.
Equipment-room for rental gear, work shop and storage room: Here are regulators, tanks, wet suits, BCDs, fins, booties and weights; client`s wet suits and BCD`s can be hung up to dry as well.
Compressor-room with air-compressor Coltri MCH 16 ETS Silent which punps 260 liters/ minute to 2 scuba tanks all at once.
If necessary there is a second class room available
Snorkeling gear rental at Aldiana`s beach from May until October
The availability of NITROX is guaranteed through a Nitrox network with our dive center in Marbella. They have the first ever built L & W (Lenhard & Wagner) NITROX Mixmaster, a membrane compressor, which fills 450 liters/ minute to 4 Nitrox tanks all at once.
Happy Divers Gibraltar also offers its clients the opportunity to rent either part of the equipment or the full gear. Following an overview of what`s available.
Happy Divers Gibraltar intends to offer their divers great and comfortable diving. The boat named ``Enano`` is a 6 meters long Valiant rib powered by a 150 hp Mariner outboard engine. It gives space for up to 12 divers and is equipped with sonar and GPS, emergency oxygen, a rack for storing scuba tanks and a 250 litres under floor gasoline tank. This boat gives the opportunity to approach comfortably also dive sites which are further away
Location description: The dive sites at Costa del Sol and the nearby Atlantic ocean are famous for their richness and variety of fish. Marine life from both seas, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic ocean, can be found. There are several Marine Reserves within the dive sites around Gibraltar. Marine life can grow without being disturbed.
Dives for all training-levels. Easy shallow-water dives for beginners as well as demanding current and/or deep dives for experienced divers. All dive sites have a different character; rocky underwater landscape, reefs and wrecks with a rich marine life can be found. Congers, morays, groupers, tuna, seahorses, nudibranchs, spider crabs, trigger fish, sunfish and dolphins join the dives.
Interesting marine life is guaranteed, because at Costa del Sol the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean meet one another. Which means that plants and fish from both waters are found.
Following a description of some of the dive sites:
*The wreck of the green beans
This wreck, a cargo vessel of approximately 130 metres in length sank in 1982. After losing its rudder in heavy weather it was forced against a rocky outcrop and sank in only 12 metres of water. This depth making this site perfect for all kinds of divers and experience levels.
The story has it that the vessel was carrying a ship load of canned green beans, upon sinking the local communities took advantage of the situation and raided the ship for its load. The central section of the wreck currently finds itself collapsed, but the stern and bow sections proving the most interesting sections of the wreck, remain intact and penetrable. A torch is recommended as many creatures dwell within its dark holes, including turtles and groupers.
*The roman wreck
At this dive site situated in “El Timoncillo” by Punta Carnero, at the outer part of the bay of Gibraltar in no more than 24 metres of water, remains what was once part of a cargo from a Roman ship. Although the ship has long ago vanished the amphoras, made of ceramic, still remain, one can only marvel at their presence as part of a 2000 year old history. Close by, in 19 metres of water we can also witness an earlier history, a 3.5 metre anchor belonging to an XVIII century galleon rests. Large colourful gorgonias adorn the anchor making it suitable for photo opportunities, as does the 5 metre high natural rock wall that separates both points of interest
*CAMP BAY - Gibraltar
As part of an incentive to attract marine life to the area, several wrecks were scuttled around the Camp Bay area, beginning at 9 metres down to 17 metres.This makes Camp Bay an attraction for wreck divers. PADI specialty courses like “Wreck diver” and “U/ W Navigation” are ideal to do here in an interesting manner.
