Company description Far away from the busier tourist areas, you can find Bahia hotel-restaurant with its Poseidon diving centre offering all you need to enjoy of an authentic diving paradise. The mediterranean climate in Menorca is from April to November and is ideal for not only resting but also diving.
The diving centre you were looking for..
Just there is the menorcan coast. To dive shows us its beauty: caves, caverns and reefs to be discovered.
One of the main divers points is the stalactite Pont de`n Gil caverns which entrance is in about 10 meters depth. When you get inside you can take your diving mask off and walk along the cavern. With the lamp lights you can wonder at the fantastic formed stones of different sizes.
Menorcan waters are alive not only with the typical red scorpion fish, moray eel, conger eel, octopus, cuttlefish or lobsters, but you can also find, during May and June, crabs and rays.
The diving centre is located in the same hotel, directly on the beach in Cala Santandria. We are an international base and accept all kinds of certifications for divers like CMAS, VDST, IDA, Barakuda, SSI, PADI etc. Also, we are a member of the german divers association (VDST) with base abroad. We train divers from the begining and continue improving them in the different diving levels like bronze, silver and gold and even the trainer assistant categor (CMAS) or to be trainer (after CMAS and IDA). We offer other courses in Security and Rescue, Underwater Orientation, Night diving, Cave diving or Group Leader. Any other courses upon request.
Our instructor, Dieter Payonk (TL-3) instructs with very good diving equipment from our center. He makes 2 dives per day and a fascinating night dive. We have 25 equipment sets with 12 liter DIN and INT tanks and wet suits to rent. If you are an advanced diver or a beginner we equate to your needs to offer you the best training.
Diving centre equipment consist of 2 Bauer compressors, steel 12 and 15 litre tanks (all with 2 ways valves), UW lamps, technical service and diving shop. We are authorised Cressisub dealers for sport articles and Kowalski for UW lights. If you prefer, you can bring your own equipment and leave it in our shop althoug we do have equipment to rent in all sizes in excellent condition.
Our Boat
The Poseidon is a boat designed for divers. It is 9 mts long and 2,90 mts wide. It has a diesel SOLE 150 hp and 5700 ccm engine. 20 divers can fit well with, sitting on the bench. The underside allows you to fix the diving equipment. There is a comfortable stair at the backsite and a small platform. Just opposite, there is a fixing area for diving lights and cameras. The boat has also acoustic leads and precise navigation instruments apart from the sea radio and a mobile telephone. We always carry the first aid box and oxygen tanks with us.
For beginners or just for diving next to the beaches we have a 5,50 mts outboard boat.
Location description: Menorca has 701 squarekilometers ground, approximately 1,5 times Ibiza and 1/5 of Mallorca. The length from La Mola to Cap de Bajolí is 47 kms and the width is from 10 to 19 kms. Coastline is 286 kms from where you can see more than 30 different little islands. For example: Illa des Bledes, Illa de`n Colom, Illa del Aire and Addaya islands. We are 75 km away from Mallorca (distance from Cap D`Artruxt in Menorca to Cap de Freu in Mallorca). Barcelona is 241 kms and Africa just 380 kms.
Menorca, the most eastern of the Balearic Islands, enjoys the gentle climate of the central Mediterranean. In winter the lowest temperatures are between 5ºC and 10ºC but very humid. Summer is drier and warmer, sometimes with temperatures that pass 33ºC and relative humidity of 68%.
Whoever wants something more than the normal coast of a mediterranean island has to get into the beautiful submarine menorcan world with its fantastic caves full of thousands of stalactites and stalagmites. The caves and caverns you can discover are unique and have a precious value for each diver.
There are about 40 diving spots around the island, so you can explore something different every day. Some of them have an easy access, some are high level and there are some for only experts. Here are some examples:
... Punta Quintana ...
Extraordinary caves and galleries, indented coastline and large rocks. All just in one dive! You can see red scorpionfishes, conger eel, prawns and crabs. And of course there are also thousands of worms and shell-fish up to one meter size!
...Barracuda reef...
Located on the North coast we anchor to 12 mts deep and start the dive. Just from here to the reef, there is a 6 mts dive full of moray eel. You can see from the reef the deepness (about 30 mts) and there you can find cods, groupers, different kinds of corals and lobsters. This reef is well known because you always find this fish, the barracuda, sometimes in groups of 30 to 40 fishes, sometimes they are in a few hundred. You can dive between them and nearly touch them...
... Cala es Morts ...
This place is just 15 min. away by boat. The depth is around 10 to 26 mts but just 4 mts at the entrance to the cave. On leaving it and diving some meters more, we see how it becomes a big canyon with fantastic intense blue waters. Praws, crabs, red snapper or even conger eel habit the cave. Outside this area, where we anchor there are breams, barracudas and sometimes lobsters.
