Company description Scuba Mallorca is in the small and still traditional village where you won`t find the hussel and bussel of the big city or the wild and craziness of the mad beaches and pubs. What you will find is simply beauty and tranquility. The bay area is surrounded by mountains offering great hikes and if hiking is not in the picture then a stroll through the town square or along pine walk may be the answer. You`ll find many a bird watcher and cyclist here and for the archaeologist there is plenty to discover. The area offers an abundance of water sports as well as great restaurants and accommodations and for those who just want to relax the beaches are exceptional. BUT WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO IS DIVE.
Scuba Mallorca was started in 2000 to fill the need for quality diving in the Bay of Pollenca. Mick and Jessie who run the centre along with their friendly, experienced and fun staff will make your time in their company an unforgettable experience.
We have received acclaim from many sources and have appeared on BBCs `Passport to the Sun` programme. We have also been featured in numerous magazines including DIVER and SPORT DIVER magazine.
Miss Connie, Our Dive Boat is a 12 meter planing hull custom hard dive boat with a large dive platform and two dive ladders designed so that you can climb up with your fins on. She is fully equipped with a VHF radio, GPS, 2 depth sounders, knot log (speed & distance indicator), full navigation lights, 15 life jackets, 4 rings, 3 fire extinguishers, 2 X Dan 02 oxygen kits, and first aid kit. As Spanish law requires, we hire a fully Spanish licensed boat captain who has been trained in diving. ``Miss Connie`` is also legally licensed for night diving.
She can take up to twelve passengers including captain and crew in comfort.
She cruises at 15 knots and has a top speed of 25 knots, powered by 2 inboard 125 hp diesel engines.
On a windy day take shelter in our comfortable cabin, stay in the shade under our sun awning or catch some rays on the bow for those sun lovers.
We can offer bareboat charters, or provide a guide or instructor.
You can even book the whole boat for an evening, afternoon or just a few hours.
We insist that our staff are renewed, fully insured PADI professionals with excellent interpersonal and exemplary diving abilities.
In addition, we look for other attributes, like language skills, character, enthusiasm, dedication and loyalty. We are always on the lookout for new additions to our dive team. If you fill these criteria and want a career in diving, then we would like to hear from you. It doesn`t even matter if you are not a Divemaster yet, we can train you to any level during your time here.
We strongly encourage you to carry on at our dive centre and obtain your assistant instructor or attend the instructor development course. While these courses cannot be completed in trade, you will be able to complete several of the required dives while working at our dive centre and we can offer you any needed additional dives at a substantial discount.
As a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, Scuba Mallorca has been recognised as a highest quality dive education establishment. All our courses are taught to the highest standards from your very first dive to your Instructor course. If you are a diver already, why not further your fun and enjoyment of the blue planet and enrol in a Continuing Education course. We have plenty to choose from!
Location description: Our favorite dive sites:
*BWM CAVE
BMW Cavern is located close to the Cavern of Jeronimo. Like the name implies the entrance looks just like the BMW emblem. Swim along the wide cave and then up a shaft into an air bell at the back. This cavern offers a variety of marine life. Get your torch out and have a hunt. The most unusual creatures are well hidden from view
MAXIMUM DEPTH: 18 M
*Alcanada
A shore dive site for snorkelling or try dives. It is shallow, 3 - 4 m, and is used as a confined water training site, or as a snorkeling site.
*Punto De l`Avensada
From Port Pollenca harbour, looking north east there is a Roman fort and a lighthouse built on a long point in the bay of Pollenca. This is our training, Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba site. With plenty of access to shallow water, and interesting underwater landscape, it is ideal for your first breaths underwater.
Nearer the point, it is a little deeper and has many rocks and small walls to explore, look for local wildlife such as octopus, bream and a host of small wrasse and blennies.
*Formentor Island
In the quiet bay of Formentor, there is a small island set only about 50 meters, from the shore. It is uninhabited, apart from seagulls and small trees. Underwater, it is less barren, with a gully running into the island and a lovely swim through in about 14 meters. Once we anchor drop down to 12 m and follow a wall round on your right hand side. Look in the crevasses for Moray eel and Grouper. Once round the wall you will find the swimthrough which is a regular haunt of Barracuda and reasonably sized Bream. On the return check the gully for octopus and the occasional scorpionfish. There is a wreck of a small yacht a little way off the point.
*Formentor Steps
As you cruise along the cliff, towards the lighthouse at Formentor, you can see a small series of steps leading down to the water. This marks the start of this dive. Drop down and follow the wall round until you come to a massive gully in the cliff which looks like a cave but is not that deep. Go inside and look for a swimthrough which takes you down from about 12 m to 20m. The bottom of the gully has stones which look like dragons eggs.
*The Cove de Jeroni ( Jeronimo)
One of our favourite, and most spectacular sites. We anchor at the bottom of a large cliff which descends vertically into the water to a depth of 18 - 23 m. Following the cliff along, the entrance to the cave becomes clear and a safety stop is made inside before surfacing. Upon emerging inside the vast cavern, the divers find themselves floating in the enchanted, transparent, silent waters of a huge inner lake. The iridescent blue light from outside illuminates stalactites on the vaulted ceiling of a natural cathedral and the pressure caused by the waves creates a magical mist atmosphere. On descending, swim through a small tunnel inside the cave before exiting along the wall.
