The Indian Ocean Explorer was built in 1956 in Hamburg as an oceanographic research vessel destined for the North Sea. In 1997 it was completely rebuilt as an ocean-going dive boat. Since Summer 1998, The Indian Ocean Explorer has been cruising the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean. Our trained, professional crew caters to the needs of our guests. The 35 meter long boat offers 7 double cabins for a maximum of 14 persons. With a large, partially shaded sun deck, relax and enjoy this live-aboard cruise experience. We tailor our trips to our guests' needs whether on standard or custom-designed charters. Our Various Activities: *Diving as you like it Just steps from the comfortable dive deck, find yourself in a fabulous wonderland: corals in a rainbow of color, rays in formation, turtles, schools of fish in all sizes and varieties, curious barracudas coming in for a closer look, moray eels peering cautiously out of their caves, lionfish, and squid follow one after another in glorious succession. And don't forget the King of the Sea - the shark! *Whale Shark Safari Dream of diving with a Whale Shark? You’ve come to the right place! In our special Whale Shark Program we can introduce you to this unique creature -- an experience we can only recommend. *Research Diving It’s often possible to travel on research trips that include fascinating dives. For example, out in the Deep Blue, swim under a raft set out be the IRD (Institut de recherche pour le dveloppement) to collect masses of fish, big and small... an unforgettable experience! We regularly work with various research organizations such as the IRD, Professor Hans Fricke -- famous for his work with the rare Coelacanth fish -- and others *Special, customized dive trips can be organized.
