Company description
Blue Ventures is an award winning not-for-profit organisation dedicated to facilitating projects and expeditions that enhance global marine conservation and research.
Blue Ventures coordinates expeditions consisting of scientists and volunteers, working hand in hand with local biologists, governmental departments, NGOs and local communities, to carry out research, environmental awareness and conservation programmes at threatened marine habitats around the world.
Blue Ventures continues to offer opportunities and field experiences to people wanting to become actively involved in marine conservation, whether a beginner or an expert. Our teams are made up of dynamic, enthusiastic and committed volunteers, coming from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
We believe that the expeditions we offer are unique in terms of our location, our staff to volunteer ratio and our costs. Blue Ventures organises lectures for schools, clubs, universities, associations, etc. upon request.
Different projects are suitable to different people. However, the quality of projects varies considerably amongst different organisations, and you should make sure that you ask a number of important questions before deciding which is the right trip for you. We firmly believe that our award-winning socially and environmentally responsible volunteer programmes offer some of the most rewarding and productive marine conservation and educational experiences available today.
National Geographic Adventure magazine has recently featured Blue Ventures as one of the world`s top adventure trips.
To help further environmental awareness Blue Ventures is launching an innovative, flexible education package; we are working with schools across the UK to link subjects to the real world, and also to create opportunities beyond the classroom. Aimed at all key stages, our programmes combine curriculum linked-lectures on the marine environment and sustainable development with dive training, which allows students to really experience and connect with what they are learning about.
Developed using the experience and feedback of teachers, scientists and students, the programme is suitable for both primary and secondary schools, with relevant, curriculum-linked lectures, projects and activities for all key stages. Our staff are trained environmental educators, and members of PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, which has a long standing reputation for safety and good diving practice. We use a multimedia approach to lectures and dive training, to make learning accessible for all students.
Our education programme will inspire and reinvigorate students’ interest in subjects that make real connections with the world around them, enriching them with a knowledge and understanding of our world’s oceans as well as new skills that will open doors to them in the future, both academically and professionally.
Location description:
You don’t have to travel far to discover the wonders of the Ocean. Blue Ventures offers a wide variety of mechanisms by which you can get involved in marine conservation, education and research locally, nationally and internationally. Blue Ventures offers the following options for those wanting to become actively involved in conservation:
*Eco Trips
In addition to our diving trips, Blue Ventures also works with Travelroots in an attempt to select the very best environmental and responsible conservation trips. Travelroots uses Blue Ventures as a consultant to ensure that they choose the very best and most environmentally aware holidays the world over
*Short Trips
Diving is one of the world’s fastest growing leisure industries, and with this boom comes pressure on the environmental and social structure of the destination. How do divers affect the health of a reef? What measures can be used to protect an area? What are the social impacts of a resort? Established diving destinations, like the Red Sea, have put measures in place to protect their environment, and lessons can be learned from this. We aim to visit a wide range of destinations so see what measures are in place, and where measures need to be put in place. In addition, there will also be the opportunity to undergo further dive training, in a range of specialities: Nitrox, Photography, Wreck Diving… the list goes on! These trips are designed to help you expand your diving experience in a range of environments, and also your experience of the incredibly diverse marine world.
*UK Diving
There is more to the marine world than coral reefs, and more to diving than tropical water. Blue Ventures helps to organise regular weekend diving trips, or trips for small groups and individuals to the unique and varied marine environment around the British Isles. There’s plenty of opportunity for people get their feet wet, learn new diving skills and learn about new environments both near and far. In addition, we’d like to get an idea of just how environmentally responsible UK dive operators are in order to assist with our growing Conservation and Education programmes in the UK. Blue Ventures volunteers are amongst the most environmentally aware, discerning divers around - so your opinion of whether these operations make the grade can really make a difference.
