Company description
The Hyperbaric Unit at Whipps Cross Hospital was the first department of its kind in London; and by the 1990’s it was the last. It was established from the beginning as part of the National Health Service.
The Hyperbaric Unit was founded in 1965, as a research facility for Vickers, using the first monoplace chamber produced by them for clinical use. This chamber remained in clinical service until 1992, when it was sold to the Wellcome Foundation as a piece of medical equipment history. The oxygen for the department was initially supplied from cylinders which were carried on trolleys pushed around the hospital by trainee anaesthetists.

At London Hyperbaric Medicine Ltd, we currently train all of our staff according to the British Hyperbaric Association ``Core Curriculum`` which includes a written assessment. Staff members are also encouraged to attend national and international training programs to widen their knowledge in the field of hyperbaric medicine and technology. Our course have been developed to cope with an increasing international demand for high quality education in a professional environment. London Hyperbaric Medicine working in partnership with the Whipps Cross University Hospital now offers a course for interested individuals from all over the world which is including
• Hyperbaric technical staff
• Doctors with an interest in diving medicine
• Military Hyperbaric Staff from other countries
• Hyperbaric nursing staff (including ICU nurses)
• Hyperbaric tunneling and professional diving specialists
The objectives of the course are to provide educational experience in the fundamentals of Hyperbaric Medicine for Health professionals with an interest in the specialty. The course encompasses the British Hyperbaric Association Core Curriculum for hyperbaric facility staff and includes practical experience in chamber operation and attendant duties.

Courses are conducted at London Hyperbaric Medicine Ltd, using the teaching facilities of the Whipps Cross University NHS Hospital. Additional Internationally recognised accreditation has been applied for and should be in place shortly.
