Company description
Our benefits:
Firstly we offer International recognition for our members, both with SAA qualifications and with CMAS qualifications. We are the only CMAS qualification issuing authority in the UK. Secondly we have the strength of an Association to support and protect our members and we offer third party insurance, personal accident insurance, equipment insurance and preferential rates with car hire firms and breakdown recovery clubs.
Thirdly we can offer standardisation and assistance with training techniques, plus access to a full range of National and Regional Courses.
Our Philosophy:
From the very beginning, the guiding philosophy of the SAA has been that, as members, clubs maintain their total independence. Nationally elected officers have little say in the day to day running of clubs. This independence is jealously guarded and remains the prime reason why so many clubs seek to join our Association. SAA clubs teach new members themselves. The SAA lays down a set of guidelines and standards, which the clubs follow in training and certifying their members. Many people who join us from other organisations may have varying styles of tuition but as long as their training is in line with our standards their programme will be accepted by the SAA. The SAA training programme has been devised to ensure that the novice moves through the grades of competence in an enjoyable and progressive way, each new level of training building on what has previously been learnt. This means that the novice learns to dive using at extensive system of evening classes and pool sessions spread over WEEKS rather than days. Once they have their medical, novices can start their diver training and when ready will make the transition from pool to the open sea. Naturally, being introduced to open water diving in an area known to be safe will make this as easy and unintimidating as possible. We encourage our members to welcome all who are interested in taking up diving as a recreation, including the opportunity to partake in a ``Try Dive`` and watch the club in action. By training with a club new members will not ``learn to dive`` in 20 minutes. Most courses are taught over weeks or months. However, in those weeks, they will learn to dive with people they know and trust. Newcomers are assured of a safe and fun introduction to diving in the company of like-minded people who are willing to give their time to ensure the best possible training in a friendly, sociable atmosphere.

*Dive Shop
One of the major factors in maintaining the low fees of the Association is the successful operation of our sales office. From here many items vital to the smooth running of the clubs are sent out, training aids, books, posters, badges, clothing, plus promotional material can be obtained by mail order or bought at any of our workshops or annual general meeting.
Qualification items will only be issued by the National Sales Officer on receipt of the official order form countersigned by the club`s Diving Officer thus preventing divers gaining false documentation.
*Do you possess the following skills and qualities; enthusiasm, integrity, innovative, commitment, hard working, partnership working, communicator, and have some time to spare then we need you!! If you have answered yes to most of the aforementioned then please get your nominations in. Being at the forefront of the decision making and changes has it`s rewards during this rapidly developing phase of diving. The current executive members will have completed their year of office. As some have completed their 3 years in office they will not be continuing on the Executive and will therefore need to be replaced. If you feel you have the attributes required for any of the positions, please send your nomination form to head office
Anyone who is a current member of the SAA may be nominated.
*SAA TSUNAMI SUPPORT
Numerous divers and people involved in the underwater world have nationally shown remarkable humanity in supporting those who have suffered as a result of the devastating effects of the tsunami and are still asking how else they can help. One way is by supporting one of the registered charities or specific Tsunami Funds. However another and possibly even more important way you can help those most affected by the tsunamis is to continue diving and not change your travel plans to those areas that are ready to support tourism, many of which received minimal to no damage. Supporting the local economy will help ensure the people in the affected areas do not face yet another tragedy, this time economic.
The information has been compiled from a variety of sources, including Ministry of Tourism`s, the BBC World News service, international media and local CMAS Federations. We encourage you to pay close attention to travel advisories issued by respective home countries and contact your destination`s Ministry of Tourism.
