A dive club with over 150 members
Aquanauts Dive Centre is the most popular PADI training school in the Plymouth area. From humble beginnings in a small garage with a few sets of kit, 16 years later we`ve developed a unique atmosphere in a centre that caters for every divers` need.
Run from a perfect site on the Barbican beside the View 2 Pub with the pool set in a large property in Derriford, the facilities include, a purpose built 3m deep pool, large lecture room, equipment store, and the all important refreshments fridge. With 30 sets of equipment, 2 boats, torches, video equipment , first aid kits, and emergency oxygen, the not for profit dive club with over 150 members is also well looked after.
Aquanauts welcomes any and all from age 8 to 80. In diving, safety is paramount. Every training dive will involve at least 3 staff, the Instructor, the Rescue Diver, and the Dive Marshall. Every HSE recommendation is followed if not exceeded. With a care for quality diving, our shore training sites include the best in the area, Bovisand, Thurleston, Cawsands, Looe, Talland Bay, Firestone Bay and Devil`s point as well as the beloved Plymouth Hoe, a challenging but very safe and accessible environment. Our boats can take you to all the local wrecks and reefs including the renowned Scylla reef.
Aquanauts is involved in numerous local activities and charitable community events. We organise annual Underwater Cleanups for the Marine Conservation Society and Project AWARE, teach disadvantaged groups, and also provide Rescue Divers for the Formula One Power Boat Races.
Our Team
Brian Allen
PADI Staff Instructor and GUE / DIR Fundamentals Diver, Brian Allen has been diving for 21 years since age 9. He is a keen wreck enthusiast and seasearch diver. Centre Manager and founder of Aquanauts Ltd, Brian has dived around the world before returning to his home town of Plymouth to set up the perfect UK dive centre. With a progressive outlook for the sport, he ensures that his divers are trained and equiped to enable them to progress quickly and easily. With a focus on quality and safety you can be sure you are receiving the best training possible, with kit that can be relied on in the most extreme of conditions.
Noeleen Allen
Divemistress Noeleen is probably the real boss, in charge of the finances and the running of our shop, she`s the one that`ll chase you if you haven`t paid. Noeleen also runs the friendly dive club, along with Instructor Sarah and Christina the tekkie. So if there is a dive or a drink you want organising give them a shout!
Douglas Allen
Douglas Allen was the original founder of Plymouth Aquanauts a BSAC club formed 20 years ago. Run from his home in Derriford he developed a unique environment from which his children created the shop and dive centre. Having taught for years he is now semi retired although you`ll often see him hanging around making sure his kids are behaving themselves.
and others.
Location description: About Club
A Plymouth diving centre isn`t complete without a club, and we`ve got it just right. For those that pass their first course we strongly recommend joining. Our dive club isn`t like the others we don`t solely promote our own boats, and we`re open to all :- BSAC, PADI, whatever... With weekend family days and beach barbecues around the Plymouth area, to frequently organised evening shore dives, our club divers can hire kit and dive for the price of an air fill £1!!! Of course if you do want to boat dive we`ll give you a discount on the boats. Our evening boat dives are just £12.50 to dive club members.

Some about Dive Sites
Firestone Bay & Eastern Kings
If the Viz were better these would be some of the best dives in the country. They are very tide dependant and require almost exact timing to do safely. But once down you are treated to 40m walls carpeted in feather stars in gorgeous pinks and oranges. Thornbacks are often found at the bottom. Congers in some of the holes with lobsters and crabs in others, and shoals of various fish sometimes in vast numbers.
Le Poulmic
Glen Strath Allen
HMS Abelard
and so on.
