PADI Scuba Diver
The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of some classroom/self study, three pool or confined water sessions and two open water dives. Upon completion of the course, a PADI scuba diver will be certified to dive almost anywhere in the world with a PADI professional down to a depth of 12 metres.
Another benefit of the Scuba Diver course is that there is no financial penalty in upgrading your qualification to Open Water Diver, as the upgrade fee is only £100 if you completed your Scuba Diver with us, or £150 if you completed it elsewhere. This means the total cost of becoming an Open Water Diver with Dive St Ives is the same whether you stagger your tuition or not.
PADI Rescue Diver / Emergency First Response
The PADI Rescue Diver program prepares you to help prevent, and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies, minor and major, with a variety of techniques. What you learn improves your skill and confidence as a diver, and prepares you for the PADI Master Scuba Diver and Divemaster levels.
The PADI Rescue Diver course is divided into knowledge development and open water training. The knowledge development portion develops the principles and information you need with topics including self rescue, diver stress and rescue procedures. Knowledge development is usually conducted through independent study and review sessions prior to the open water training.
During open water training, you’ll apply the knowledge learned as you develop rescue skills and techniques. You’ll practice these skills in a confined water environment as well as an actual diving environment.
Dive St Ives normally run a PADI Emergency First Response course on a Monday and the PADI RESCUE DIVER course on the Tuesday through to the Friday, i.e. 5 days

Location description:
There are hundreds of dive sites available
around St Ives, and the Penwith peninsula.
St Ives is Cornwall`s premier year-round resort and is surrounded by beautiful sheltered beaches. St Ives has great shops and eateries, and brilliant light that has inspired artists for centuries. It is also the home to attractions such as the Tate Gallery and of course Dive St Ives.
St Chamond
On 30 April 1918, two miles off St Ives Head, whilst on a voyage from Glasgow to St Nazaire , the St Chamond was torpedoed by the German U-Boat U-60 and sank quickly due to her cargo of five railway locomotives complete of 75 tons each. The wreck now lies in 27m of water and the railway locomotives are still easily identifiable as they rise 6m above the sea bed. An excellent slack water dive. On this dive you may see wrasse, shoals of bib, pollack, conger eel, lobster, crab and a resident trigger fish.
Seal Island
Also known as The Western Carracks, this outcrop of rocks is approximately 3 miles west of St Ives, towards Lands End. Here lives a colony of seals that we regularly visit to dive and snorkel with. This makes an excellent second dive with depths of up to 16m and it can be dived at any state of the tide but only in good weather when there is not too much sea swell. The seals are very good fun provide care is taken!! Fantastic opportunity for budding photographers. Also in this area you may see pipefish, dogfish and tope.
Kintuck
On a journey from London to Barry Roads, on 2 December 1917, the 4600 ton steamship the ``Kintuck`` reported an explosion which immediately put the engine and steering out of order and the ship slowly began to sink. Eight miles from Godrevy Island and with 58 men on board, they were all evacuated safely except for one man who drowned whilst trying to land from a boat. The Kintuck lies in 27m of water and the hull is detached from the stern. This is an excellent slack water dive normally with good visibility due to the reflection off the sand.
Porthminster Reef
Just a few metres away from a crowded and beautiful beach loaded with holidaymakers on a summer’s day lies Porthminster Reef. This is an excellent dive with depths up to 14m and can be dived at any state of the tide. This small reef provides refuge and sanctuary to a vast array of marine life from anemones and crabs to lobsters and congers. A real treat just minutes away from the harbour entrance!
Bessemer City
With a cargo of 7000 cases of fruit, 200 tons of zinc ingots and 800 tons of deck lumber, the 5,600 ton Steamship `` Bessemer City`` was on a voyage from New Westminster to London on 2 November 1936, when in thick fog she lost her way and steamed straight into the cliffs near Pen Enys Point. Although most of the cargo was salvaged and the ship was badly broken up, she remains an excellent shallow water wreck dive and can be dived at most states of the tide.
