Company description Aquaventure Scuba Club was founded in 1999 with the intention of providing divers with the opportunity of learning to dive and, more importantly, giving them the chance to keep diving once qualified. This was born out of some of our own experiences when we learnt to dive with a dive shop and then found it difficult to find a buddy, learn about new sites, continue to dive and keep our skills up to speed as a retail unit often finds it difficult to provide an after sales service to newly qualified divers. We believe we have met our intentions and the club continues to develop.
As a result the club now has many active divers amongst its 90+ members, including a number of families and juniors. We also cater for the single diver looking for a buddy or someone who simply wants to dive as much or little as possible with others, in fact all are welcome regardless of experience or qualification level. Non diving members are also welcome, particularly to support diving partners.
We run various local trips throughout the year, dive holidays to exotic places and weekly pool sessions for the active diver. All the trips are run by experienced members who are only too pleased to pass on what they know.
As you can see from the menus above we welcome and cater for junior members. We believe juniors are the future life blood of the club and welcome them on all trips and holidays.
In addition there a host of other pages on this site covering dive planning resources, kit servicing and other useful sections. We have an active sales board for second hand kit and provide advice and guidance as to what to buy based on our own collective experience as opposed to the purely financial viewpoint that you will often find in shops.
Have a browse through the web site and if you are interested in joining us, learning more about the club, achieving your diving qualification, just having a try or progressing your dive education then drop us a mail by clicking the link above or come and visit us at the pool on a Sunday where we will be pleased to have a chat over a beer and discuss your needs.
Joining the club could not be easier, we welcome new members regardless of age or experience, after all the ethos of our club is to provide the opportunity for everyone to dive.
Simply complete the Membership Application Form post it with the annual fee to the Chairman; Bruce Ballagher. You must have current liability insurance to cover your use of the pool.
The current 2006 fees are £60p.a. adult & £25p.a. junior (aged up 15yrs). These fees are to cover the pool costs which works out at just over £1 a session if you dive at the pool each week. In addition there are many organized diving trips each year together with annual diving holidays & social events.
We now have a Family Membership available for £140. This includes 2 adults and as many direct family children as you have under the age of 16yrs.
In short you can get as much out of the club as you want to without great expense.
Courses
The club instructors offer the full range of PADI diving course up to Assistant Instructor, many Specialty courses, so whatever your interest for example wrecks, photography boat diving etc, it is catered for. Most of all we specialise in providing quality beginners courses through the PADI Open Water Course. This is the foundation upon which all other training is built, get this right and the rest is easy. We believe that investing in the best initial training will help keep people diving safely for years to come.
Finally we are able to provide specialist services such as training stuntmen and women (for stunt register qualification), providing underwater videography for tri-athletes and other swimmers who require more in depth analysis of strokes and turns and much more. Contact us with ANY query at all. If we can`t help we will know someone who can.

Breakwater Beach Brixham
Our old favourite. There can`t be many divers in the SW who have not dived this site. Easily accessible with shore line parking (make sure you have change for the parking machines, £4 for the day at time of writing) and a gentle sloping pebble beach.
The depth varies up to 9-10m depending on the tide with a gradually sloping bottom with sandy patches that make this a favourite training site. There is a beach front cafe and restaurant and a beach attendant during the summer. Unfortunately the air station that used to be in the cafe has now gone with the arrival of a new owner. Nearest air is now in Paignton harbour at Nautique.
There is usually loads to see here and it makes an excellent night dive.
Dive planning is easy here as any wind other than anything with the east in it doesn`t touch it. There is a fair tidal range so check out the tide times to try to coincide with high tide.
The more adventurous can complete a long surface swim out along the breakwater dropping down onto scallop beds and a wreck of a small fishing boat but beware as there can be a seagoing current here.
The only other thing to take into account is the large number of fishermen who use the breakwater and the possibility of entanglement in their lines.
While in Brixham you must try the Garret Cafe which is up the alley opposite the Prince of Orange in the harbour. The food, including vegetarian cuisine is fantastic, and very cheap.
Thurlestone
A tricky site to get to following the windy Devon lanes from the A38 Plymouth road towards the village of Thurlestone. Pass by the pub and hotel to the golf course where you park in the field alongside the first green!
Kit up here and follow the sandy path towards the sandy beach. Here is a fantastic beach fit for the family with a west facing aspect so easterly winds that blow out Brixham make this a perfect site.
The added benefit of this site is the easily accessible wreck of the Louis Shied, a massive boat that went down on the reef just offshore. In only 12 m at high tide with very pronounced boilers and prolific sea life this is an excellent dive with good viz the norm, we have had seals come to the beach to see what we were doing on a number of occassions.
With air available in nearby Salcome this is a favourite to set up camp for a weekend.
Stoney Cove
This site used to be our bread and butter but with inland sites much closer to Bristol now the frequency of trips here has diminished. That said it is the daddy of inland sites with loads of underwater attractions, fish life and depths to suit all.
The visibility is usually very good here and it has the benefits of all amenities on site, shop, pub, shower block and changing area together with a load of redevelopment to keep it at the forefront of inland dive sites.
and many others!
