Company description
The Cave Diving Group provides education about cave diving through a mentoring system.
1 - It is the responsibility of the Regional Section to ensure that Trainee Divers have reasonable access to
suitable training.
2 - Each member is responsible for establishing mentoring relationships both as mentors and mentees with
other members of the Group.
3 - The mentor and mentee should discuss the mentee’s requirements for cave diver education in a manner
that is suitable for both parties.
4 - The mentor should provide advice on obtaining suitable training, practical experience, theory,
knowledge and maturity in order to educate the mentee to the point where they are able to pass the
assessment for Qualified Diver status.
5 - The mentor must acknowledge the limitations of their own mentoring ability and communicate those
limitations to the mentee.
6 - The mentee should obtain advice from more than one source.
7 - At all times the safety of the individual must be maintained.
Each Section ensures that Trainee Divers have reasonable access to suitable training.
The CDG provides a code of practice for the delivery of cave diver training in its Training Standard
The Cave Diving Group recognises two Classes of diver:
*Trainee Diver
*Qualified Diver
A Qualified Diver is considered to have a thorough knowledge of practical and theoretical cave diving techniques and is competent to organise and supervise the training and cave diving of trainee divers.
The CDG Qualified Diver Assessment consists of three parts:
*Part A Submission of a record of caving and diving experience
*Part B Practical Test
*Part C Theory Test
Qualified Diver status is awarded at a Section meeting following a satisfactory performance from the Trainee Diver in all three Parts.
The Cave Diving Group offers two advanced qualifications:
*Nitrox diver
*Examiner
An experienced Trainee Diver can approach their Section for assessment for Qualified Diver status on completion of a suitable training programme.
CDG also offers its manual about Cave Diving.
Cave diving is an extremely dangerous occupation. The escape route for the open water diver, to the surface, does not exist underground, where the way out is frequently to return the way one goes in.
Over the years of exploring submerged passages the Cave Diving Group has developed a training schedule and technical expertise in this field which is second to none.
This experience is set out in this book, and I have no doubt that its use in training and equipping the cave divers of the future will increase their ability to extend our knowledge of the underground world in greater safety.
More details you`ll find on our website.
Location description:
The Group is always pleased to accept new members. However, due to the very specialised nature of the sport, prospective members of the group should consider very carefully if this is the most appropriate organisation with which to further your goals. Amateur cave diving contains an element of risk.
Membership of the CDG has traditionally been drawn from the caving community, because U.K. cave diving is effectively caving underwater, not diving with a roof over your head. New members would normally be expert cavers with some experience of open water diving. Most members of the Group began their diving careers by helping transport equipment for active divers. This is without doubt the best, if least glamorous, way to learn.
The Cave Diving Group is a national body comprising of four regional Sections; Northern, Derbyshire, Welsh and Somerset. Each Section administers membership at their regional meetings. To join a Section you will need to complete a membership form, obtain endorsement from two Qualified CDG members and send the current membership fee and waiver form to the Section Secretary.
The benefits of membership of the CDG include:
*Quarterly Newsletter
*Liability Insurance
*Qualification card
*Contact with cave diving mentors
*Negotiated access to some otherwise limited access caves
*Members-only on-line library of newsletter back issues
*Information on cave diving around the world
*National representation of cave diving interests
