Company description Icicle Divers (SAA108) is an independent dive club affiliated to the Sub Aqua Association (SAA). The club was formed in 1961 and currently has around 30 active members, ranging from highly qualified and experienced divers, to complete novices.
The Club gets together once a week for a pool session. Pool sessions are held every Monday evening (except Bank Holidays), from 9 p.m. until 10.00 p.m. at Crewe Swimming Pool (Flag Lane, Crewe). During the pool session we hold try dives, carry out training, or use it as a chance to get together, swim a few lengths, and plan the following week’s diving.
Icicle Divers owns it’s own equipment, including 2 Ribs (Rigid Inflatable Boats) and various dive kit that is available to hire, if needed.

We are a small, friendly dive club, with the emphasis on safe, enjoyable diving. Most weekends (including over the winter!) we can be found out and about, diving various dive sites throughout the UK. Our frequent dive sites include Capernwray, Stoney Cove, Hodge Close, Anglesey, Liverpool Bay, North Wales.

We also try to “get away” and arrange dive holidays, (as a group) to various locations around the world. Recent holidays have included Northern Ireland, the Red Sea, Scapa Flow, Plymouth and the Sound Of Mull.
Icicle Divers is a well-equipped dive club. We have two ribs (Rigid Inflatable Boats). One is an Osprey Viper and can carry between 7-10 divers and the other is a Chinook Seafury, which can carry 10 - 12 divers. Both ribs are fitted with safety equipment, including satellite navigation, decca, radio, flares etc.
We have our own club mini-bus which seats around 10 people (plus dive kit) and is used for towing the boats. Unfortunately, it’s not 4-wheel drive and so it tends to get stuck in the sand at Ross!
We also have various kit which is available to members to hire, to use while training, or to use for try dives, including BCD’s, regulator sets (1st & 2nd stage, spare, console), cylinders, mask, fins and weights. However, please note that we do not have any “club” wetsuits or drysuits available to hire, so you will need your own (and if you are thinking of diving in the UK, a drysuit is a must).
We recommend that you buy your own kit if you are going to dive regularly, and understand that this can be confusing, so if you need any help or advice, then just ask!
Icicle Divers offer full, friendly and fun training for anyone thinking of taking up scuba diving.
You do not pay for training provided by the club! Your annual club fees cover any training that is run by icicle divers, so it is a very cost-effective way of becoming a qualified diver.
All training is given by qualified, experienced divers, and is run within the guidelines set by the Sub Aqua Association.
Training consists of attending lectures, (which cover the theory side), practical exercises (in the pool and eventually ``open`` water) and passing a written examination.
During your training, you can borrow most equipment through Icicle Divers (however, please note that you can not hire wetsuits or dry-suits from the club and will therefore need your own, or to hire from an alternative source).
Training takes about 3 months to reach from complete beginner, to Elementary Diver. Once you have achieved your Elementary Diver qualification, you can continue to increase your experience and level of qualification through Open Water Dive, Club Diver and beyond.
As a member of the SAA you will also have access to addition training courses, such as boat handling, first aid, diver rescue and instructor courses. (please note, an additional fee must be paid for these courses, as they are run outside of the club).
Location description: The Sub Aqua Association is a collection of independent dive clubs, run within guidelines set by the SAA. It is a UK based organisation, however an SAA qualification will be recognised and enable you to dive abroad. Because of the club structure, it can take a while to learn to dive. Training takes place over the course of a few months, however this way, you learn to dive with people you know and trust. New divers are assured of a safe introduction to diving, in the company of divers who are willing to give up their time to ensure the best possible training in a friendly atmosphere. Clubs are run on a non-profit basis, with all money (such as club fees) being put back into the club. Clubs tend to own their own equipment, such as boats and dive kit, and dive regularly in the UK and often arrange group holidays abroad.
What can Icicle Divers offer you if you are already a qualified /experienced diver? You can “cross over” your current PADI, NAUI or BSAC qualification (subject to the agreement of Icicle Divers Dive Officer), so we recognise any previous training and qualification you might hold. We can also help you to continue training, to build on your current qualification, up to Dive Leader, Dive Supervisor and beyond. We have access to other courses run by the SAA (such as boat handling and oxygen administration, to name a few).
We have a yearly dive calendar and dive regularly throughout the year (weather permitting!) at locations throughout the UK and we arrange diving holidays, both UK and abroad.
We also offer you the chance to socialise with other divers, at our weekly club night and at our annual barbecue and Christmas “do”.
