Company description We are a diving club for the students of Loughborough run by the students of Loughborough. As we have been running for over 35 years we are a well established club within the university. We are affliated with the British Sub-Aqua Club. But don`t let this put you off if you have qualifications from other organisations such as PADI or SSI as all diving qualifications are welcome.
Our member base caters for wide a range of experience from complete beginners to advanced divers. Wherever you are on this scale we will help you to progress providing the training you require. All you have to do is be able to swim 200m.
Being situated where we are (Midlands) you might think that our dive options are some what limited but there are two inland dive sites close by and we often try to get away for a weekend once a month. These trips range from the East coast, North Wales and the South Coast.
If you have never experienced the freedom of breathing underwater and would like to give it a go get in touch with the secretary (link on left) and we will endevour to organise a try dive for you on one of our pool nights. They are on Tuesdays at 20:00 - 21:00 and Wednesdays 19:00 - 20:00 in the New swimming pool (Next to the university`s main entrance)
Expect the atmosphere at LSUSAC to be a little different from a dive school, the clubs instructors are all volunteers, as a result our Chair actively encourages people to put back in a little bit of effort that they may have received from volunteers within the club.
President - Bryan Woodward. We are honored to have Bryan as the club`s president.
A professor from the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department, he has been involved with the club for nearly 25 years.
He is a highly experienced diver and instructor with a wealth of knowledge about diving and many other related subjects.
When it comes to diving, if he hasn`t dived it or knows about it then it probably doesn`t exist.
The Club Owns the following kit:-
Snorkels and Fins:-
The club has recently purchased 12 new sets of masks, fins and snorkels ready for the new trainees for pool use.
Regulators:- (18 various models)
The club owns a wide variety of regulators Us Diver, Sherwood, Apexs and Dacor.
Regulators are tested every 12 months as per the manufacturers recommendations for open water use. They are visually inspected at least every 6 months.
BCs (14 various models):
Again the club owns a variety of BCs to suit everyones tastes, from Buddy, Posidon, Beever, Sherwood and ocean reef.
BC don’t require any set test. However they are checked every 6 months minimum for signs of damage that could be hazardous.
Specialist Equipment:
The club also owns a variety of specialist equipment that helps the club carry out a wide variety of training, these include DSMBS, SMBS, Lifting bags, twinning bands and pony sets.
The club offers a large range of training to you the member.
If you are new to the world of diving then the first prong of the ladder is the Club / ocean Diver qualification this course is run from the beginning of the academic year and all the theory and pool work should be completed before you leave for Christmas. This leaves you with another 6 months to complete the open water dives to gain the full qualification.
If you have been diving before you joined the university then the club also offers higher level training once the club divers have completed their theory and pool work. The training offered will be for the Sports Diver and Dive Leader grades and are run on demand.
Providing you are an active member of the club I see no problem in you obtaining a diving grade a year.
Location description: As we are a BSAC club then all the divers within the club should be BSAC qualified don`t worry too much if you haven`t been trained by BSAC. All it means is that we do some basic cross over training at the beginning of the term and once completed and in fact while this is going on you are able to dive with us. I have made a list of the dive qualifications from the most common agencies to enable yourself to guage where you will enter the BSAC training ladder.

A diver who is competent to dive with another Ocean Diver or with a Sports Diver, within the restriction of conditions already encountered during training. They can conduct dives with a Dive Leader (or higher) to expand their experience beyond conditions encountered during training, under the supervision of a Dive Marshal. Ocean Divers are initially restricted to the maximum depth experienced during training, but this can subsequently be extended progressively, under the supervision of a Nationally Qualified Instructor (NQI), to a maximum of 20m. Ocean Divers will not have sufficient experience or knowledge to be partnered with trainee divers or to take part in stage decompression stop dives. Ocean Divers can only conduct dives where other suitably qualified divers, who can act as surface support, are present and the dive is properly Marshalled.

A Dive Leader can plan and lead a range of dives including those requiring detailed dive, air and decompression requirements planning. They have the skill and level of knowledge to progressively extend both their own and others experience. Dive Leaders are competent to marshal and supervise branch dives to locations well known to the Branch or using experienced Charter Boat skippers, or in conditions not normally described as `challenging`.
Dive Leaders can dive to a depth which is initially limited to 35m but which can subsequently be extended progressively to a maximum of 50m.
