Company description Selby Aquanauts was formed about ten years ago with the idea of organising dive trips rather than depending on filling in gaps with other clubs. We are affiliated to no particular organisation but most of the members are Padi trained. There are also BS-AC NAUI and S.A.A. divers in our numbers.
Due to the eclectic mix of the training of our members we are well aware of both the advantages and the shortcomings of Padi and BS-AC and as a club endeavour to be everything to every diver. We hold first aid and rescue courses each Winter so even the most inexperienced members have a grounding in the basics.
Subscriptions are only £10 per year and five years ago our bank account was sufficient for us to buy an oxygen resuscitation kit, then four years ago we bought a new 15 litre tank as occasionally new members turn up with only one tank and mindful of the expense when first kitting out you will now be able to use a club tank.
Most of our diving is done from charter boats and anyone is welcome to dive with us member or not.
If you live local to Selby we meet in the Bay Horse in the town centre (opposite the main Post Office) Micklegate on Thursday evenings about 9 pm.
Whether you want to start scuba diving with the Padi open water course, increase your skills and qualifications or purchase quality diving equipment I can provide you with a good deal. None of the courses I run are with large classes so you receive the personal attention you deserve. Courses are run to suit you, so if you only want Sundays that`s no problem. If you are not sure which course follows which go to entry level for a flow chart. If you are not sure and would like a pool try dive before booking on a course give me a ring and I`ll arrange it.
If you are already a qualified diver and would like further training then this can be arranged around one of ``Selby Aquanauts`` weekend trips. Meet other divers and have the fun of a weekend away.
All courses are PADI sanctioned so you are training with the largest diver training agency in the world. There are special equipment deals on each course.
If you are new to diving there is some brilliant diving in Britain and upon completion of your training you will be welcome on our club trips.
Some words about me
I started diving years ago but only occasionally, as my main hobby then was sidecar racing but in 1994 I made the decision to become a Padi instructor and started a club for any diver. We now include Bs-ac S.a.a. Naui and Padi in our members.
I only teach part time, more of a hobby really but it keeps the club infused with fresh blood.
A couple of years ago I started researching into where a lot of the diving kit comes from and placed a few sample orders with the idea of offering my students a more economical way of building up their diving equipment. This worked so well that I am hoping it can grow to be a full time business and I can avoid being a wage slave.

Location description: On all club trips visitors are welcome but members take priority. Most of our trips are organised early spring so this is likely to remain flexible till then. A trip to Stoney Cove is planned for one Sat in March. This will be preceded on Thursday evening with a pool session to try out your kit and carry out the pool familiarisation to anyone doing their dry suit dive for the advanced course.
If you want learn to dive:
There are three entry level courses, the most popular being the ``Open Water Course``, a modular programme of classroom, pool and open water sessions which will train you to dive safely and become comfortable in the underwater world. This course takes four or five days and includes four open water dives to put into practice the skills you gained in the pool.
Price £320
``Open Water Referral`` is the same as the above without the four qualifying
dives. These can be carried out at any PADI centre worldwide. Ideal for the
person who is determined to be a warm water diver and only dive on holiday.
This of course saves the waste of valuable holiday time in the classroom.
Price if run for two from £190 each.
``Scuba Diver`` an entry level course that qualifies you as a diver but unlike the open water course you are not qualified to dive with another diver of equal level but only with a Divemaster or higher. All of this course is included in the open water and can be upgraded to open water at a later date without taking the full course. Scuba diver is roughly half the open water course lasting two to three days.
