Company description The owners, David & Jeannette Pelly, bought Sandford and Down when it became available in April 2000. The shop itself has been a centre for diving since 1964.
Previously David worked in the shop as an equipment engineer, he has over 20 years of offshore and recreational diving experience. Our shop includes a diver training school S&D TRAINING, run by David and Mac, offering a wide range of courses from PADI, DAN and IAHD.
We offer a friendly and enthusiastic service to people, both able bodied and disabled that are new to the sport and to those wishing to either brush up old skills or learn new ones.
We offer a warm friendly reception to everyone, no matter what experience or knowledge and we are firm believers that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the wonders that diving has to offer. We provide all types of equipment, from the Novice to the Technical diver at competitive rates, with the previous servicing experience gained while working professionally off-shore we offer the facility, on site, to service diving equipment including cylinders, regulators and 1st stages, we can also repair suits and other items of equipment which may be damaged due to the wear and tear of diving, so if you are near our shop please drop in, and say hello and remember........ `OUR ADVICE IS FREE....`
Sandford&Down: Training also offers a range of courses from Divers Alert Network (DAN) and the International Association for Handicapped Divers (IAHD).
At Sandford and Down we aim to introduce you to the wonders of the underwater world in a relaxed and fun, yet professional atmosphere. In line with PADI standards, all of our courses are performance based and NOT time based. This means that we will progress at your pace and your are under NO pressure to complete a certain module of your course by a certain time.
Your training is provided in small groups (usually no more than 4 students) and 1:1 tuition is available if required. Confined water training takes place in a local swimming pool where we have sole use of the whole facility; ensuring that you are not distracted from your training. Open water training takes place at either an inland site, or at one of the many superb sites available on the coast between Brixham and Kingsands.
Our course fees are inclusive of most training materials and all your tuition, plus for the Open Water and Adventure Diving programmes the fees include kit hire. All the training staff at Sandford and Down are members of PADI, and all staff and training comply with PADI standards and HSE diving regulations.
Location description: Sandford and Down can offer you a full range of PADI recreational scuba diving courses, ranging from Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba through to Divemaster. As well as a choice of 18 different specialty courses.

PADI COURSES
*BUBBLEMAKER
The PADI Bubblemaker experience is similar to the PADI Discover Scuba course, except that the age requirements are between 8 and 10 years.
*DISCOVER SCUBA
The PADI Discover Scuba experience gives you the opportunity to `try before you buy`. You start off with a short briefing and watch a video. Following this you are given a simple and easy introduction to the underwater world in the safe confines of a swimming pool.
*DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING
This experience programme includes everything in the PADI Discover Scuba course as well as an open water dive.
*SCUBA DIVER
The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of the first 3 academic modules, the first 3 confined water dives and the first 2 open water dives from the PADI Open Water course.
*OPEN WATER DIVER
The PADI Open Water certification allows you to dive with another certified diver to a maximum depth of 18 metres at dive sites with conditions that are similar or better than those in which you were taught.
*ADVENTURE DIVER
The PADI Adventure Diver certification is awarded to the diver who successfully completes 3 Adventure dives.
*ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER
This certification allows the diver to dive with another suitably qualified diver to depths of 40 metres, but Deep Diver training is recommended for dives deeper than 30 metrtes.
*EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE
The Emergency First Response course is split into two separate sections, which can be completed at the same time or during separate sessions.
*RESCUE DIVER
This course teaches the diver how to react in a rescue situation, either the rescue of another diver or self-rescue.
*MASTER SCUBA DIVER
The PADI Master Scuba Diver is the highest non-professional certification in the PADI system of diver education and denotes a diver who has gained superior achievement and proficiency.
*DIVEMASTER
During the Divemaster course you will gain instructor level knowledge along with watermanship skills and stamina. You will also work on your scuba skills until they are up to demonstration quality.
