Location description: There are a few good scenic dive sites on the Clyde.
The Gantock Rocks offer good scenic diving suitable for all levels with gently sloping sea bed to 35m. You will find squat lobster, some conger and the usual crabs etc. You may even be lucky enough to get a dive with one of the many seals that inhabit the rocks; watch your fins.
There are a variety of excellent drop-offs around Little Cumbrae Island from walls, which bottom out at 50m, to sandstone ledges which gently level out at 30m. Sea life is abundant in summer, lots of wrasse, edible crabs and scallops will make all your drift dives in this area interesting ones.
Sheanawally Point- a gentle drift around the point, lots of scallops and crabs to see.
Traile Island - a steep wall leads into sandstone ledges; wrasse are plentiful here.
Catalina - the seaplane sunk on her moorings in 19-22m of water; today small congers lurk under the fuselage and large pollack shelter around the wing.
There are many unused piers along the length of the Clyde estuary that remind us of the rivers former bustle. The Trips ``DOON THE WATER``, from Glasgow to the coastal towns of Dunoon and Innellan are sadly limited these days. However lots of bottles and crockery are now found in these shallow waters near the old piers. We have even come across a medicine dispenser or rather what we thought was a strange looking glass jar! The Lochs that run into the estuary also have piers, which too are almost forgotten. Two of the better ones are at Blairmore on Loch Long and at Carrick on Loch Goil.
The disused sewer pipe at Wemyss bay lies in 6-34m and is covered in anemomies and marine life.
CLYDE WRECKS:

``GREENOCK`` - Built Renfrew 1876, 461 Gt.
``WALLACHIA`` - Built Southampton 1883, 1077nt
``BEAGLE`` - Built Partick Glasgow, 454 Gt.
``KINTYRE`` - Built Greenock 1868, 94nt
``EUROPA`` - Built Jarrow 1862, 424nt
``CHAMPION`` - Built South Shields 1882, 26nt
``IONA`` - Built Glasgow, 124nt
``MTB``
The ``WALLACHIA`` was sunk like many before her by a collision with another vessel. She was carrying a valuable cargo, which included whisky, gin, beer and acids, when she went down. Again she is a very interesting dive with lots of old jars and bottles to be found. She is one of the most popular attractions on The Clyde.
The ``Europa`` sank in 1884 after a near head on collision with another steamer just off McInroys Point, Gourock. The hull of the ``Europa`` is pretty much intact although the superstructure is gone. Therefore there is little except the stern to give any bearings of position during the dive. Deposits of coal and squat lobsters can be found on the decking.
The sleek lines and gun-mount helped identify this wreck as a MTB. At the end of the war a number of these vessels were sunk in live fire exercises. She lies today in Loch Striven in 39-44m and is home to large congers and a few pollack. A smart ship in her day, she has double-diagonal woodwork and was fitted with brass.
