BIRDWATCHING
Take a cruise from Brighton Marina up to Beachy Head passing close in to the fulmar rookeries at Seaford Head, past the Seven Sisters up to the lighthouse. This is best done on a calm day, near high water so we can sail closer in to the cliffs. This stretch of coast supports a large population of seabirds, including herring gulls, black-back gulls, kittiwake, guillimots, oystercatchers, cormerants, etc. Gannets may be spotted further offshore.
SPARTACAT ANGLING
Come and enjoy Sussex Coast angling from one of Brighton newest and best charter boats, skippered by Tim Bennetto who has a wealth of local knowledge gained over the last 21 years on his previous boats Polaris, Cirrus and Spartacus. He has dived many of the marks and wrecks over the years, learning vital information like wreck condition, what fish are present, hazards( like nets), etc. There are two types of angling on offer, depending on the level of experience of the charterer:
Ground fishing
It is recommended that those new to a rod, reel and line get to know their tools in a more controlled environment where the boat is stationary at anchor. The depth is probably no more than 35m so the tide is less, so less weight is required. One fishes on the seabed, which is generally broken rough ground or reef, where catches will include whiting, dogfish, ray, tope, spurdog, smoothhound and perhaps conger. Over winter, cod are fished for in this way.
Wreck Fishing
For the more energetic and experienced angler, a day`s fishing the many war wrecks off the South Coast promises catches of fine pollack, cod, ling and conger. The former are usually taken when drifting across a wreck trailing artificial lures, whilst conger fishing entails anchoring up-tide of the wreck, fishing into it with baits. Tackle loss can be quite high whilst drifting, but the rewards can be much greater.
