Company description
Julie-Anne Charters is north Wales based, organising charter Fishing & Diving trips around the beautiful north east coast of Anglesey in Wales.
Elfyn and Terry have been running their Self-built 38ft boat out of Amlwch Port, as a fishing and deep-wreck dive-charter for the past eight years. More recently their time has been split between charters and the complete new build of their new 32` Aquastar.
As keen and experienced anglers & divers we can confidently locate every charted wreck (and many un-charted) within our area of operation (20 miles from safe - haven).
Having dived most of the wrecks in the area we know where the big fish hide!
Both our spacious boats boast all the latest electronics: Differential GPS, Marine VHF Radio and LCD Colour Fishfinder / Sounder (all backed up by replacement sets!).
Tea-making is one of Terry`s specialties in our well-equipped galley. We also have a WC for a bit of added comfort. We are licensed for ten anglers and two crew and run trips of 8,10 and 12 hours duration.
Julie-Anne Charters has two hard boats operating out of Amlwch Port with Holyhead offering an alternative port of departure when winds are E or SE.
Advanced/Technical/Deep diving trips are restricted throughout the summer to Mid-week only.
The EMPRESS is licensed for 8 divers / 10 anglers. Generally two wreck-dives per day are available.
The JULIE-ANNE is licensed for 10 divers. This spacious vessel offers newcomers to hard boat diving a relaxed atmosphere in which to discover the world of wreck-diving.
Elfyn Jones - RYA/MCA Offshore Yacht master (power-driven) Certificate of competence with a Commercial Endorsement.
An Amlwch resident for most of his life. Elfyn is a member of the Nat. Fed. of Charter Skippers, his enthusiasm for fishing, shooting & diving remains as strong as ever.
Whenever the weather permits you will find him out on the boat.
He is especially fond ( and who isn`t?) of light- tackle Tope-fishing in the summer - catch and release is the way
Elfyn Jones,34,Electrician, living in Amlwch with long-term partner Julie Evans.
Started his diving-career in 1989 via the PADI route, gaining the OW-Instructor qualification in 1990 in nice warm Malta.
Boat-building and diving also hindered the collection of badges and he to did the Nitrox bit eventually, he managed to squeeze in a Trimix course with Jack Ingle before getting his Re-breather and training in 1999.
Terry Stoker - RYA/MCA Offshore Yacht master (power-driven) Certificate of competence with a Commercial Endorsement.
Terry moved to Amlwch 11+ years ago. Although 150mls and 5yrs in difference he too was a fishing addict from an early-age, travelling all over the country (and Ireland and Denmark) in pursuit of
Coarse-fish specimens. Carp, Tench and Barbel being amongst the favourites.
The sea has since taken-over his life and he too started diving around 8yrs ago- teamed up with Elfyn and they built a boat
Terry Stoker, 40, Heating Engineer, married to Wendy Anne, one son, Osian. Started his diving exploits in late-summer 1993 when he joined a local BSAC branch with whom he rapidly attained the ``sport-diver`` qualification.
Didn`t progress beyond this level with the club because too much time was spent diving rather than training- averaging 150 dives per year. Also, building the Julie-Anne took up most of the non-diving free-time.
In the winter of 1997 finally got round to doing Nitrox and Advanced-Nitrox courses and in the winter of 1999 invested in a Buddy Inspiration CCR and the associated training.
Anyway, we aim to share with you our experiences gained from 10 years of diving, approx.1200 dives, 90% of which have been from my home-town of Amlwch Port, North Anglesey.
Location description:
The Anglesey coastline is littered with different types of sea bed; ranging from rocks & reefs, sand banks, mud flats and shingled areas, all this together with quickly accessible inshore wrecks (there are over 200 around the Anglesey coast), general angling opportunities around our coast are phenomenal. On a typical day we would expect plenty of Dogs, Whiting, Huss, Gurnard, Pollack , Coallie, Flatties and Pouting to be landed. If you can get past these then some good Conger,Tope,Rays,Cod and Ling can be encountered.
The Irish sea has an abundance of both deep and shallow wrecks which play host to many different species of fish. Being part of the shipping lanes into Liverpool, over centuries now ships caught in severe storms have been lost in these seas. fish that can be expected in and around wrecks within easy reach of Amlwch Port.
Our research has revealed that there are over 30 wrecked ships carrying Welsh slates in our area of operation, which, at the moment, stretches from the Skerries in the West to the Orme in the East and around 20ml off-shore- an area of approximately 600 sq miles.
Of these we have found the location of 9 wrecks, 5 of which we deem to be worthy of salvage in depths of between 40m and 18m.
Along with our salvage operations on the S.S.Dakota these 5 wrecks provide us with many options allowing us to carry out salvage work all year round.
Location of further salvage opportunities is somehow squeezed in while traveling to more distant sites.
9th May,1877: Transatlantic Passenger liner S.S.Dakota, of Liverpool, was outward-bound for New York in calm conditions when, 2-miles offshore, the Captain ordered a change of course to seaward.
However, she turned in the opposite direction and, steaming at 14kn, ran onto the rocks near the port of Amlwch, north Wales.
Her crew of 109 and 218 passengers were all rescued safely by Bull-bay Lifeboat and most of the mail and passengers` luggage was recovered before she slid off the rocks into deeper water to become a total loss.
Most of her 2,000T general cargo, however, was in the holds towards the stern of the vessel and due to the depth of the water(60ft) and the funneling of the tide between the mainland and the island of East-Mouse very little of this could be salved at the time.
