Company description Diving Cornwall with Lands End Diving from Penzance to St Ives, diving some of the best dive sites in Cornwall
Lands End Diving is a family run business run by myself `Ben` with the help of my father `John`, both being experienced UK divers with myself being a PADI Instructor and my father a BSAC Dive Leader of 20 years.
We offer a skippered boat charter for qualified scuba divers who wish to dive around the peninsula of Lands End in Cornwall, covering the streach of water between Penzance and St Ives. Offering a huge range of diving which will suit most peoples needs.
Lands End extends out into the Atlantic and has been an obstacle for sailors since traders shipped tin from cornwall thousands of years ago. Countless numbers of ships have been wrecked along the Cornish coastline, ranging from four mast sailing ships to second world war battleships.
The south west of Cornwall sits upon granite which forms most of the cliff line, and most of the small islands and rocks that jut from the sea. Some rocks have caused many ships to founder and sink, one famous reef is the Runnel stone which has clamed more than thirty ships.
These reefs aren`t just excellent for wreck diving they offer some the best reef dives in the Country, when the vis is over 15m and the reef is alive with fish you would have to travel a long way to beat it.
The tides can be hairy at times but they offer a benefit which make it all worth while, this is clean and unpolluted water it is not unheard of for visibility to reach well over fifteen metres. Also meaning that apart from in the height of a plankton bloom the visibility doesn`t often fall below four or five metres.
The tide keeps the seabed clean also leaving very little fine silt to stirrup during a dive, this makes most dives nice and light even on overcast days.
Diving at Land`s End is an adventure, as much for a hardened technical diver as a newly qualified diver. Undiscovered reef and wreck lie in the shallows and far out into the horizon. Whether you want to dive wreck or rock we can find a dive site to meet your needs. From a relaxing shallow dive on a wreck to a white knuckle drift dive over a reef.
We aim to provide the best diving available at anyone time, taking the best from what the tide, wind and visibility has to offer. We do not settle for second rate diving to save on fuel costs or other expenses, dropping divers on sites that we ourselves would dive is our priority.
Boat
``On The Gas`` is an Atlantic 21 which was the RNLI inshore lifeboat at Ramsgate, operating until it was replaced by a new Atlantic 75 in 2000. The boat was purchased by us in 2002 and has been modified for use as a dive boat since.
Being an ex lifeboat the qualities of the boat are excellent, with good design and build making it fast but stable. And a safe and comfortable dive boat.
A watertight deck runs the length of the boat with the bilge spilt into four compartments. The inflatable tube is made up of nine separate sections which mean the boat would still remain stable even if two or more sections became damaged.

Location description: We offer a dive boat charter on the south west coast diving Cornwalls coastline, diving Mounts bay at Penzance and around as far as St Ives, including dive sites like the Runnel stone, The Long Ships, The Brisons, Three Stone Oar, Gurnards head and many more.
Lands End is well known for its ship wreck diving with wrecks found along the entire length of the coast, ranging from early sailing ships to modern day trawlers. Many ship wrecks lie untouched, undiscovered and unknown.
We run a dive charter an area which to our knowledge is not covered by any other day dive boat charter, or even dived by anyone at present. Partly due to extra expense of getting to the dive sites, which means many dive boats only take divers as far as The Runnel stone. The other reason is lack of knowledge, of the sea conditions and of actual locations for the best dive sites.
We believe in only dropping divers on the best dive sites available, sites which make the trek down to dive cornwall more than worth while.
So if you travel to south west Cornwall for your diving, and are fed up with all the same old dive sites. Then contact us to dive on new wrecks, unknown reefs and with people who want every dive to be the best dive.
History Of the Boat
B558 was provided by the people of Ramsgate and named ``Ramsgate Enterprise`` on the 6th June 1985. She operated out of Ramsgate until 2000 when she was replaced by B765 named ``Bob Turnbull``.
B558 was involved in many services over the 16 years, a prominent one being the rescue of the yacht Rasmus on the ninth of september 1999.
The inshore lifeboat launched despite the conditions being in excess of its operating limits, because its shallow draught would be needed to reach the yacht on the Sands.
The mast of the yacht had broken and lay partly across the deck and in the water, along with all its rigging. After firing flares the crew of the Rasmus took shelter in the cabin, where they became trapped by the falling mast which blocked the hatchway.
A crew member from both Lifeboats were put aboard the Rasmus, and struggled to clear the hatch and extricated the three people trapped. The Cox’n therefore decided to take the survivors off the yacht, and took the AWB stern on to the casualty, clear of overside wreckage, and held her in position.
Suffering from minor bruises, hypothermia and shock they were passed over to the lifeboat. Which then recovered the two lifeboat crew.
The boats then made full speed for Ramsgate, landing the three survivors to waiting ambulances at the habour.
It was then decided that the Lifeboats would return to sea to search for the yacht as, if it were still afloat and adrift, it would constitute a major hazard to navigation. After a short search found the yacht adrift. The yacht was towed back in to Ramsgate by the AWB with the ILB in attendance and once in the harbour the lifeboat crew made secure the mast and rigging on deck and moored the yacht in the inner marina.
