Orkney Islands Charters is a small family run business which provides luxury Diving Holidays in Scapa Flow and around the Orkney Islands. We also offer scenic cruises for those interested in Bird Watching and Sea Angling. The skipper / owner of the vessel has put together this package through previous experience working on other dive boats and has identified through listening to the diving parties what they are looking for to make the perfect holiday. As well as taking you to dive the famous wrecks of the scuttled German Fleet in Scapa Flow we shall also take you to unexplored areas around the Orkney Islands and let you explore its rich maritime history for yourself. But the areas that we explore aren’t the only element of the Orkney Islands Charters package where we do things differently. Our boat has been recently reworked so that we can offer your diving party luxurious accommodation. Each cabin has hot and cold water, and as we have an electricity generator on board instead of a gas supply we can also offer you safe and convenient surroundings for your diving holiday. The MV Bounteous Sea is a 72 ft ex-fishing vessel which was built Scotland by J.G.Forbes Boatbuilders at Sandhaven near Fraserburgh. She is powered by a 500 HP Cummings Diesel Main Engine and has a Lister and Ford Generator for electrical power. The Bounteous Sea carries a 25 CFM compressor for all your free air requirements. We can also supply diving cylinders for your use if you don`t want to take your own with you. We can supply Nitrox on board for the more technical divers at an additional cost. We can also supply lead weights for your use free of charge. The skipper / owner, Mervyn Pirie is a very experienced skipper. He has piloted many other vessels for over 16 years, is fully certified and will tend to all your needs. Mervyn is an expert at locating wrecks and spotting sites for some unbelievable scenic diving. The MV Bounteous Sea carries all the modern oxygen therapy equipment and all the other safety equipment that is required under the MSA code of practice, for which she is certified. The MV Bounteous Sea also carries lifting gear for the ease of loading and unloading your kit as well as lifting on bicycles and Motorcycles should you wish to take them for touring round the isles at your leisure. The accommodation, which has been specifically designed, has the largest cabins on board any of the local dive boats, comprising of six twin berth cabins ensuring complete privacy each with hot and cold water. All cabins are centrally heated and each cabin has its own thermostat so each can have their cabin as warm as they desire. Cabins are fully carpeted throughout. We hope to see you soon!
Our six days diving package begins on the Sunday morning with 2 dives per day right through till Friday night. Scapa Flow and the Orkney Islands have possibly the best wreck and scenic diving available in the UK. We will find the perfect dive for you whether it be a ship from the first World War German Fleet through to the blockships or maybe scrap sites from where the other massive German battleships were scuttled. We can take you on a scenic diving trip where you can see Orkneys diverse range of wildlife and it`s dramatic landscape. There`s a possibility of seeing Gillimots, Seals, cormorants, porpoises as well as a host of other amazing creatures. You can even see amazing rock formations - sea stacks and cliffs shaped by the sea. If you are not into diving we can also take you to see these amazing sights from the comfort of our boat - we offer birdwatching, sea angling and seal spotting for the non-diver as well. For the divers, we will find safe and sheltered diving for you around the islands throughout varying weather conditions, unless the weather we are experiencing is extreme. The visibility experienced in Orkney waters is usually 20-30 meters outside of Scapa Flow and slightly less in the Flow itself.
