The Lodesman is 71 foot (21.6m) overall and powered by twin Gardiner 8L3B engines of 230bhp each. She was originally built for Trinity House as a heavy weather pilot vessel and used as such until 1988 when she was refitted for survey work and now has a most comprehensive set of navigational equipment including a sonar and full safety equipment.
Unsinkable!
Her hull design is the same as the larger Clyde class of RNLI lifeboat and features a double skin and watertight bulkheads and has a seakeeping ability far exceeding any weather in which it would be sensible to be diving! She is licesnsed to carry 12 passengers and 3 crew.
She has now been fitted out for diving charter and has a 4000psi 50cfm compressor and air bank. There is a changing cabin forward with access from the deck, gear can be stowed onboard here overnight for convenience. Seating and gear stowage is arranged on deck with the diving ladder adjacent. The aft saloon area, for after dives, is centrally heated. A shower/WC is earby, as is the galley.
The owner/skipper, Pat Dean, has been chartering to divers for 40 years from Salcombe and has a comprehensive knowledge of the area`s wrecks and scenic sites.
Lodesman operates as a day charter vessel and a variety of accommodation is available in Salcombe - a town rich with bed and breakfast accommodation, holiday rentals, and boasting quality pubs, cafes and restaurants to suit every taste.
