Skin Deep Diving

Diving Charter Boat (English)

Service:
  • Accommodation for Divers
  • Wreck Diving
Company description

Skin Deep is a long standing scuba diving charter that offers an all inclusive package diving holiday for club divers around the UK. We operate from Weymouth in Dorset and cover the majority of the central section of the English Channel although most of our charters are based around the classic wreck diving locations off Weymouth & Portland. We are licensed for up to 12 divers on any one charter to sea and have an on board compressor for filling cylinders between dives so there`s no having to bring a second scuba tank for that second dive. Our customers stay in our shore based accommodation where all bedding, food parking and everything else is provided including a pack lunch for your day at sea. We have two locations of accommodation for clubs that are not diving with us or clubs that have a full weeks diving with us there`s the bunker in Portland and for clubs diving with us over the weekend we have the house in Weymouth where Margaret Smith lives. For customers staying at `The Bunker` our Portland accommodation in conjunction with the Skin Deep dive boat there is also a mini bus service to and from the boat. For those diving with Skin Deep our 11 metre dive boat has a lift on the stern which brings you out of the water so there`s no more climbing ladders. In fact Skin Deep was the first such dive boat in the UK to have such a lift for recreational scuba divers and was invented by the founder of skin deep Andy Smith. Of course this means if you are disabled or have difficulty`s climbing ladders then with Skin Deep you can still enjoy the pleasure of hard boat diving. Skin Deep is skippered by Ian Taylor. During his diving career Ian had been involved in many types of jobs including, cable laying, construction, demolition, wreck salvage, cargo salvage, lifting Donald Campbells Blue Bird and various other documentary work. In 1997 Len Hurdis of Autumn Dream in Weymouth offered Ian a job skippering his shuttle dive boat

The English Channel is the busiest shipping Channel in the world and with the help of two world wars and ports that have sailed vessels since wood could float it is now channel the most wreck-infested stretches of water in the world. Skin deep over the last 30 years has visited over 160 new wreck sites with in its day range, some of the most well known wrecks in the area and especially popular with customers are the wrecks of the Salsette, Kyarra,M2, Avalanche, and the Aeolian Sky. SKINDEEP has wrecks to suit everyone from 18th century sailing ships to submarines, warships and merchant ships in fact were still discovering more wrecks each and every year. Life thrives in these strong tidal conditions and the area offers a number of good drift dives, some will fly you through dramatic seabed locations lined with deadmans fingers and plumrose anenomies. Look more closely amongst this marine growth and you will often find unusual nudibranchs, octopus, as well as gorgeously coloured anemones that adorn these gullies.
