Company description
Seasearch is a national project for volunteer sports divers who have an interest in what they're seeing under water, want to learn more and want to help protect the marine environment.
The main aim is to map out the various types of sea bed found in the near-shore zone around the whole of the British Isles. In addition we are recording what lives in each area, establishing the richest sites for marine life, the sites where there are problems and the sites which need protection.
Our objectives:
*To gather information on UK seabed habitats and associated wildlife through participation of SCUBA divers
*To provide standardised training to enable SCUBA divers to participate in Seasearch
*To ensure the quality of data gathered
*To make available the data collected through Seasearch
*To raise awareness of the diversity of UK marine life and its environment through participation of SCUBA divers and dissemination of information.
We need the support of divers all around the UK to make the project a success. You can take part on dives with your buddy, club dives or on Seasearch organised dives and expeditions. You can Seasearch your favourite dive sites or use the project as the basis for an expedition to somewhere new. We need information for sites all around the UK - even if we already have some records things may have changed. All in all any sea dive can be a Seasearch dive.
In addition to what you'll find on the website there are promotional leaflets and videos available. Leaflets are available free and the video can be provided on a sale or return basis - you can buy a copy for
Location description:
Seasearch dives are organised by Seasearch local coordinators and a number of the participating organisations. We list all of the dives we know about below but you can also contact local Seasearch Contacts for your area for the latest information or go to the Marine Conservation Society's Member's Dives website for information on MCS dives.
You need to be a qualified diver before you can take part in Seasearch. Minimum qualifications are BSAC Sports Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, SAA Club Diver or CMAS 2 Star equivalent. You need to have done at least 20 dives of which 10 should have been in temperate sea water. You will also need to have a diving medical certificate or a Sports Diver medical self-declaration and have 3rd party diving insurance.
Seasearch is not a diver training organisation and we insist that you do not dive beyond your previous level of experience on our dives.
