Company description
We are Christoph Hupe and Maren Heydel, the people behind Go North! Diving is our true passion and between us we share some 30 years of experience. Still, we do not claim to have dived everywhere (not even nearly so!) and we found ourselves time and time again hooked on diving and staying in the Arctic. The diving is extremely good and varied, but that is only one side of the story. You only spend so much time under water and afterwards you can experience the fantastic hospitality in this part of the world. People are used to a lot of hardship in their lives, which is due to the often harsh climate. Therefore looking well after guests comes very natural. There are lots of other unusual activities, including ski-doo safaris, hill walking, caving, bird watching, camping in the Arctic winter, deep sea fishing and many more. Adventures galore guaranteed!
In contrast to most other tour operators we do not just plug ourselves onto some existing venture. We enjoy working with the people, create new ventures and establish a close relationship. This is why we can take you to places which do not simply claim to be unspoiled, but really are so. Here you can be an explorer, dive places no-one has ever dived before, learn about the environment and if you are a budding historian, then you will often be impressed with the artefacts you can find, from WWII wrecks to almost complete land-based anti-aircraft positions.
Our trips do not provide a precise itinery, this is due to the sometimes unpredictable weather, especially in the winter when it can completely change in the blink of an eye. As you can imagine, it defies a one-size-fits-all holiday! Everything is made to measure and to your personal requirements. Speak to us, even if you are a non-diver. One of us will always be there to ensure you will get a fantastic holiday!
Maybe you think your diving skills are not up to it or you are afraid of the cold. Let us disperse some of your fear. Diving in the Arctic is possible for all levels – from total beginner (some people even learn to dive there!) to extremely challenging sites. We are experienced diving instructors and have a diving school in Scotland, where you could brush up on your skills before you go…or you can brush up in our diving school in Norway! It is also possible to advance your skills up to IANTD Recreational Trimix. If you come with a group organised by your instructor or dive centre, why not make use of the facilities while you are there?
Afraid of the cold? Well, yes and no – the Arctic can be VERY cold, but also very warm. We found ourselves celebrating the midnight sun in 26° C! Certainly, before you go we will give you sound advice on how to keep yourself warm, and where necessary, provide you with the right exposure protection. If you do it right, the Arctic will be an utterly rewarding experience. Let us show you how.

Some of our destinations:
*Kongsfjord and Berlevåg
Kongsfjord and Berlevåg – scuba diving under the Northern Lights. This trip takes you 500 miles north of the Arctic Circle, to water that is as clear as air, as blue as sapphire, and that puts tropical visibility to shame. Most of the dive sites, outstanding wrecks and natural reefs, no-one, except us, will have dived before. Go explore, yet enjoying comfortable accommodation and home cooked food lovingly prepared using fresh local ingredients.
*Tysfjord – scuba diving with the killer whales
Tysfjord – scuba diving with the killer whales, and some awesome wall dives In winter the orcas come to feast on the enormous schools of herring sheltering deep in this fjord. On this trip you really get to interact with these magnificent creatures, on their own terms and in their own element.
*Chupa – ice diving in the White Sea
Diving underneath the sea ice - gliding past strange translucent shapes shimmering purply blue, turquoise and green - is an experience out of this world, beyond words.
Back on dry land, enjoy great hospitality and everything to keep you warm and well fed.
*Berlevåg – deep sea fishing in the Barents Sea
If fishing means adventure to you try this. We take you 500 miles North of the Arctic Circle, 70º 52’ N where the nutrient rich waters of the Barents Sea attract arctic salmon, sea trout, halibut, cod, Norway haddock, and giant Kamchatka crabs.
*Narvik
Narvik - A wreck diver`s heaven. If you are a keen wreck diver this is your perfect destination: Most of the famous World War II wrecks are easily accessible, and they are beautifully intact despite having spent 65 years on the seabed.
*Arctic Extravaganza
For all you keen cold water divers we have planned something special for next year - our big Arctic Extravaganza. That is all our Norwegian destinations in one fantastic holiday. Book early – for only £1,890 this could be the coolest Christmas present you have given so far, to yourself or a very special buddy.
