Gulfstream SCUBA ran its first instructor course last week. We had an intense 9 days of study with all the candidates working very hard to improve their skills. Well done to Leslie and Barry for completing both the Assistant Instructor (AI) and Open Water SCUBA Instructor (OWSI) sections. Well done also to Dave for completing the OWSI section. Matt qualified as a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and is now able to teach and qualify PADI Assistant Instructors.

Red Sea Trip - January 2006
What a fantastic week!
We picked up My Rosetta in Hurghada headed off on the Northern Wrecks and Reefs tour. After a couple of easy warm up dives on the first day, the serious diving started on day 2 at the infamous Abu Nahas. This is the last reef before reaching open ocean after coming through the Suez canal and it has caught out its fair share of captians over the year. We dived on the Giannis D, the Carnatic and the Chrissoula K. In the Zodiacs on the way back to Rosetta, we twice had the privilege to snorkel with a group of dolphins
On day 3, we travelled early to the Thistlegorm. There were only 2 other boats there when we arrived and there was only a maximum of 4 other boats for our whole stay. We made 3 daytime and 1 night dive on the wreck that day at it really is as spectacular as its reputation. The marine life alone would put this dive in world class but alongside this you have the massive structure of the Thistlegorm, the fascinating trains, trucks and motorbikes in the hold and all the history associated with it. To cap it all, the weather was just perfect with flat calm seas and blazing sun.
On Day 4, we squeezed one more dive in on the Thistlegorm before moving to Shag Rock and one dive on the Southern part of the reef with large moray eels and a turtle. Then one dive on the Kingstone and the very healthy northern part of the reef where we were buzzed underwater by a group of around 40 dolphins. We then moved to Gobal island for a gentle night dive on the barge.
On day 5 we dived the 20m wall outer reef of Gobal island followed by the wreck of the Ulysses. We finished up with a night dive on Shaab el Erg.
On day 6, we started with a lovely drift dive over the 50m drop-off at Umm Gabal and finished with a potter around the wreck of the Suzanna just off the beaches in Hurghada. The sight of other boats and all the people in Hurghada after 6 days at sea was odd but seeing it from 100 yards offshore broke us back into civilisation gently.
I cannot wait to go back again - roll on the Brothers in November.
