Company description The Jane `R` can be chartered to dive the west coast, from Ireland to Shetland.
Visibility in these areas is the best in the UK and the scenery, above and below water, is exceptional with many classic wreck sites waiting to be visited.
After two/three dives per day, evenings can be spent ashore exploring the islands, which provides an easy, relaxed holiday to suit the novice, experienced diver or people with mixed interests.
A converted traditional scottish herring drifter, proven to be one of the most seaworthy crafts afloat, the Jane `R` has been specially chosen to give you the utmost comfort and safety.
Follow this link to read about her history and recent modifications.
Her powerful engine and heavy displacement hull allows her to tackle most sea condition. At 22 metres she is one of the larger vessels offering a stable and spacious diving platform and long-range capability.
SAFETY is the biggest concern for everyone on a boat and the Jane `R` more than lives up to expectations and requirements in that department.
She has a Code of Practice (Category 2) for 12 passengers and 3 crew, is fitted with all the latest safety equipment and adheres to international safety regulations.
Additional equipment in the form of Therapeutic Oxygen is carried in case of decompression illness and also carried on board is a wide variety of safety equipment including flares; fire extinguishers; VHF radios; liferaft; and inflatables.
Jane `R` is also equipped with emergency pumps, escape hatches, harnesses and life jackets.
BELOW DECKS: Accommodation spacious with twelve berths in six large cabins - single and double berths available some of which are fitted with washbasins.
There is also central heating, showers, toilets, two baths. Three cooked meals per day with tea and snacks served and vegetarians can be catered for with advance notice.
ON DECK: A large saloon with comfortable easy seating is situated behind the galley where you can enjoy eating or just watch the scenery glide by.
Around the stern, a large shelter-deck, provides cover from the elements while the open fore-deck has generous space for extra equipment associated with tech diving or just sunbathing.
A large bottle bench has kit bins and space for everyone and a main engine-driven compressor and bank system, with long whip, makes bottle filling quiet and efficient.
Nitrox and Helium are available, with O2 clean bottles and weights included in all charters. As divers we recognise the benefits of Nitrox and O2 is available for suitably qualified divers wanting to maximise their dives. When using a suitable computer, you really do see and dive the difference.
SPECIAL WINTER DIVING OFFER:
From December to Febuary we are charging a rock-bottom
Location description: For the dedicated and adventurous diver, Jane`R` can get you to wrecks other divers never see. You can be actively involved in the research and planning & team work essential in expeditions of this type! These 10 day trips may be extended to include Northern & Southern Norway, Denmark, or the Baltic and other destinations of your choice. The skipper has 30 years experience diving the wrecks around these areas. By popular request from regular divers, Jane`R` will be diving her way to Narvic & Lofoten in Northern Norway during this summer. At Narvic there are numerous WW2 warships and merchantships, the result of two naval battles. Jane`R` is licensed to dive at these exclusive sites. At Lofoten there are many islands with some of the best scenery in Norway. Every year Jane`R` discovers new wrecks in this area.
Divers are picked up from the ferry terminal in Bergen, with diving starting on the day of arrival on intact wrecks in none-tidal clear sheltered water. The wrecks in this locality include large WW2 Freighters sunk while at anchor, close under the cliffs in the fjords.
The sheltered locations of many of these wrecks (we have now found 75 in the last 8 years) means that they are often near the surface whilst the remainder of the wreck is at a gradual incline suitable for novices and experts alike with no special equipment being necessary. The water temperature is similar to Scotland, 15°C surface and around 8°C at depth.
Scenic diving is everywhere with prolific marine life and unfamiliar species on walls and wrecks. Almost continuous daylight presents excellent photographic opportunities above and below water. The weather at this time of year is usually more stable than the UK adding to your enjoyment. There is no fixed itinerary whilst cruise-diving the fjords, with so many sites to explore your involvement is most welcome. Diver or non-diver you will be impressed with this beautiful country.
There are many wrecks to be found, some of which are war losses, others down to navigation error and accidents, with some caused when vessels were simply overwhelmed by severe weather and winter storms.
Much of the work done by the Jane `R` is on the many and varied wrecks to be found in the waters off Scotland, Denmark and Norway. The North sea is of particular interest to the skipper, having spent the last twenty years systematically locating diving & identifying many hundreds of wrecks all across the North Sea from Jutland Bank to Holland in the east & most areas from Scapa to the outer banks in the southern North sea.
