Company description Welcome...
Based in Portland we have easy access to all the best dive sites in Weymouth, Lyme Bay and the Channel Islands are as little as 49 miles away! Protector has also completed commercial contracts from Portsmouth to Plymouth. Here you will find information on availability for booking Protector for diving or commercial charter.
Protector is the largest R.I.B operating in the Weymouth and Portland area, at 11.2 meters (38`) with twin inboard diesel engines (430HP) and a wheelhouse with on board facilities. Protector`s full range of electronics, kettle for making hot drinks and a diver lift making itself `` more than just your average R.I.B!``.
Certified to M.C.A category 2 standards for twelve passengers and two crew (up to 60 miles from a safe haven) + workboat code. We have the ability and experience to cater for your needs. Our main business is made up of weekend charters for groups of up to twelve people. For people who prefer to visit popular dive sites when they are not so busy or just want to dive during the week we also run Weekday Specials for individuals or small groups with a duration of one to five days.
Our focus is not with the deep wrecks that lay just a few miles to the north but with the many wrecks and reefs that are seldom dived in the 10m - 40m range. During your week you will visit some of the islands to explore their unique charm.
Protector also carries all appropriate safety equipment and oxygen is available on board. Our aim is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for your diving activities. We cater for all divers, experience levels from novice to technical.

Dive Site Etiquette
1. Weymouth & Portland dive boats operate on vhf channel 10 and are normally happy to talk to any dive boat (Rib or Hard Boat), so call us up. WE CAN HELP OR OFFER ADVISE.
2. Agree an operating procedure with whoever is the first boat on site.
3. Do not drop a shot into a wreck if there are already divers on it and please do not pull your shot unless you are certain there are no divers on or near it.
4. Do not allow your divers to decompress on another boat’s shotline unless agreed in advance with the other skipper.
5. If you know there are going to be a lot of boats on the same site, try - if possible - to change site to give everybody more room.
6. If possible get each diver to deploy a delayed SMB so it is easier to keep a head count.
7. Keep your speed down to a minimum while on site, and once your divers are in the water move away to a safe distance.
8. Agree a signal with your divers so each boat recognises its own group.
9. When dropping your divers on the shotline ask them to keep to a minimum the amount of time they spend on the surface before descending. This will help prevent the line being pulled out of the wreck or the divers losing their grip and drifting away. Ask your divers to move away from other SMB’s and shotlines on surfacing.
10. If the site is busy please do not tie your boat onto the shot.
Also on website you can find a tremendous amount of divesites, wrecks, caves, etc.
