Company description Our history.
Fed up with his studies, our illustrious founder Mark Chitty, decided to feed his natural addiction to ski and set off to Verbier in Switzerland to run a small chalet. Stepfather Mr. Warner offered to lend him the £1000 deposit needed to secure the chalet and Mark Warner Holidays was born! Jan, Mark`s entrepreneurial mum acted as the `chalet girl` organising the cooking, cleaning and taking the bookings, while Mark skied the guests around the resort as their ski host. More money was needed the following year to expand the company into Val d` Isere, so Mark called on his old school mate Andy Searle, whose father just happened to have founded MFI, to help with the finances.

That was nearly 32 years ago - since then the company has developed into one of the most highly regarded independent travel companies in the UK, carrying almost 55,000 passengers in a mix of Ski and Beach Resort holidays. Using their entrepreneurial skills Mark and Andy have ensured that Mark Warner has stayed at the forefront of innovation. Since its conception, Mark Warner has led the way in many aspects of the travel business.
The philosophy is simple: Mark Warner combines great locations, a friendly relaxed environment, brilliant staff and good company to give a holiday that is unique. The company has grown through reputation and the holidays are recommended time and time again. In fact each year over 75% of our holidays are sold on the basis of recommendation and repeat booking.
A passion for quality and innovation
Mark Warner was the first company to introduce ``ski hosting`` in the late `70`s, this has now become a standard for most other tour operators. In 1979, the first `Chalethotel` was opened and 1986 saw the introduction of the `Kids Club` programme, this earned Mark Warner the Tommy`s Campaign `Most Parent Friendly Tour Operator Award` during 1998 and runner up in the 2002 awards.
Originally, Mark Warner holidays were created with singles and couples in mind who shared an enthusiasm for sport, sunshine and good living. Over the years, improved facilities have been added including better accommodation and a comprehensive childcare programme whilst at the same time retaining the unique Mark Warner ambience making the holiday perfect for couples, singles and families alike. There are a selection of Beach Resorts and Chalethotels reserved for adults only in keeping with the original idea.
Celebrating 32 years of operation
The current ski season celebrates Mark Warner’s 32nd anniversary. The ski brochure boasts a choice of thirteen Chalethotels and one traditional chalet located in ten of the world’s leading ski resorts including Val d’Isère, Tignes, Courchevel 1850, Méribel, Mottaret, La Plagne, Les Deux Alpes, Alpe d’ Huez, St Anton and Courmayeur.
Mark Warner`s Summer Programme was added in 1982, with watersports replacing skiing and the initial ``Beach Resort`` opened in Corfu, Greece. The Beach Resort concept was popular from the start with its mixture of water sports combined with a relaxed party atmosphere, great food and convivial company. For years the resorts were based in beautiful locations around the Mediterranean and Aegean, but this year sees the introduction of the `World` programme, which includes additional luxury 5-star resorts in Egypt, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. Indeed the summer resorts now account for approximately two thirds of the overall business with Mark Warner growing steadily from it`s initial base of 500 guests in 1974, to what will be over 60,000 in 2006.
Location description: We choose beach resorts in sun soaked areas with beautiful beaches and coastlines that are ideal for watersports and activity holidays. With lovely views and terraces perfect for al fresco dining. To make it even better we add tennis courts and swimming pools, beauty salons, comfortable hotels and worry-free childcare. There`s a team of friendly, helpful staff too, with first-class chefs to make sure you dine well and professional coaches to develop your sporting talents. And to make it as relaxing as we possibly can, just about everything is included in the price of your family summer holiday.

Some resorts are ideal for a particular sport or activity holiday, whilst others suit family holidays and single parents. Some will attract those who want buzzy nightlife, whilst others offer historic sites and quiet, unspoilt islands to explore. Two of our resorts, Palm Beach in Turkey and Abamar in Sardinia are adult-only except during the UK summer holidays where children aged 6-12 are accepted.
