Wreck Diving
Company description
Cydive has been established in Paphos for over 25 years and we were the first dive centre in Cyprus to achieve PADI IDC five star accreditation. We offer a wide variety of dives, training courses and packages including diving for children, and we also cater for those of you who wish to further your diving career with four IDC courses a year. We visit over fifty dive sites througout the year and at any one time we have twenty four unique sites in our fortnightly timetable. - Which of course features once a week, all year round, a dive at the Zenobia wreck - one of the top ten wreck dives worldwide.
Cydive is the longest established dive school in Cyprus and, although it has grown in size over the last 25+ years, it is proud to maintain its reputation as professional, friendly and helpful. We cater for experienced and novice divers, the complete beginner, singles or groups and we welcome non-divers on all our dive trips (space permitting). Cydive is open all year round, seven days a week, closing only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year`s Day. There are two local boat dives per day, plus weekly day trips to the Wreck of Zenobia and the Akamas Peninsula, offering a wide choice for divers of all levels of ability. Shore dives are also available.
Cydive offers a choice of dives each morning and afternoon to suit the individual and varied experience of the divers. We have a full-time skipper to run our three boats: Cydiver III – the 15m wooden motor sailer which carries 25 divers plus several non-divers; and Cydiver I and Nautilos – both 10m fiberglass speedboats with capacity for approximately 15 divers and several non-divers each. All our boats are well-equipped and transport you to and from your chosen divesite in comfort.
We offer wreck diving to ancient and modern wrecks, plus scenic diving including caves and tunnels. There is a good selection of marine life, including cardinal fish, squirrel fish, bream, wrasse, parrot fish, mullet, damsels, grouper, octopus and sponges. If you are lucky you might dive with turtles, tuna and barracuda.
Cydive meets at 08.30hrs and 13.30hrs for qualified diver trips. The 08.30hr dive is usually to a depth of between 20 and 35m and returns at approximately 10.30hrs. The 13.30hr dive is 9 to 12m and returns at about 16.30hrs. There is also one night dive offered each week. All dives are escorted by our staff. Less experienced divers are offered suitable sites at 10.30hrs and 13.30hrs, from the boat or shore, accompanied by our highly trained instructors. For the complete beginner, we run a half-day Discover Scuba Diving programme every morning, plus a wide range of courses to all levels. Qualified divers are required to bring proof of qualification and divers log, but dive permits are not required. A minimum of 1 star / Open Water is needed for boat dives and 2 star / Advanced Open Water to hire equipment for private use. Evidence of a suitably qualified buddy is also required for the latter. Spear fishing with an aqualung is not permitted in Cyprus without a special licence, unavailable to visitors.
In addition to our small fleet, we have three L.W.B. LandRovers for transfers and three classrooms. Our purpose-built, modern classrooms are fully air-conditioned and equiped with up-to-date video and audio-visual equipment, as well as an CPR Mannequin. We also provide equipment hire and storage, rinsing facilities and a book/map loan service from our reception. We have an on-site cafe/bar and our own retail shop which offers special discounts to `Cydivers`. The very latest in dive gear is available at extremely competitive duty free prices.

Our favorite dive sites:
*Achileas Wreck
On a sandy bed lies the wreck of the Achileas, a Greek vessel which mysteriously exploded and sank in 11m of water in 1975. There are three main sections to visit, the most popular feature being the bronze propeller on the upturned stern, and there are still some complete portholes (not removable).
*Airport reef
Only 30 minutes by boat form Paphos harbour this site has a nice reef that stretches 200m vertically across Airport Bay. Interesting marine life and many crevasses from a 4m drop.
*Amphorae
A renowned afternoon dive in depths up to 12m. There are a number of caves to explore, including the one with the amphorae encrusted roof. The American team of archaeologists who investigated this site believe that this was created by movements in the sea bed over the last two thousand years. A copy of their article can be borrowed from reception
*Anzac
This 8m dive site is in the area of Moulia Rocks. It offers a mixed sand and rock bottom littered with bullet cases and amphorae. There is also a large section of the Vera K wreckage to be explored.
*Bay of caves
The Bay of Caves is just before Pistol Bay where there is a sheltered access down a cliff. This 9m site has a fine gulley and a number of caverns.
*Corallia
Close to the tourist beach of Corallia, and the adjoining five star Coral Beach Hotel, this site is quite difficult to access, at a depth of 9m it has several interesting aspects including craters and caves.
*Joni
Further north into the Akamas Peninsula is the site of an old Roman harbour. The `Joni` dive site has large pieces of amphorae that appear cemented into the rocky outcrops.
*Lara Valley
12 miles west of Paphos lies the Akamas Peninsula, the National Marine Park. Lara Valley offers crevasses and overhangs with lots of marine life, including turtles during the breeding season from May to September.
*Fish reserve
This divesite as its name suggests, is a fish reserve near Akrotiri which offers amazing interaction with local marine life. A very shallow dive suitable for all divers. You can hand feed groupers, moray eels, bream and bass. Many octopus are also to be found.
*Cynthiana
From the Cynthiana hotel near Kissonerga village, this 10m dive site offers plenty of small holes, gullies and overhangs to explore. Easy access makes it a pleasure for all divers and it is a good alternative dive site for training.
*Bream Bay
Popular for its interesting rock formation, Bream Bay offers a mixed sand and rock bed in 22-27m. It`s normally clear water makes it an attractive morning dive. Look for moray eels in the small holes and grouper in the gullies of the main `bay`.
