Company description Seastar Watersports is Aqaba`s leading dive school, for recreational diving and for diver training. Jordan`s first PADI 5 * Instructor Development Centre (S2500). Let SeaStar turn your diving dreams into reality! Our 5-Star IDC Centre specialises in PADI courses and our team of professional instructors can offer courses in a variety of languages including Japanese and Chinese! Our equipment consists of all the top brand names. We can outfit you from a simple mask, snorkel, fins set, to a complete dive kit. The first also to offer Nitrox courses and tank fills.
We make two dive trips daily, one leaving at 9.00 am from the Alcazar and another (for the less eager..) at 1.30 pm from the Alcazar. Night dives are available by arrangement. Full briefings with detailed maps are given before each dive which are available afterwards on the computer, to fully log your dive. All dives are escorted by Divemasters.
Our 4m deep and 25m long pool, the largest and deepest freshwater pool in Aqaba, is used for confined water training. (Great for getting fit too, swimming lengths... or perhaps just cooling off)!
Our equipment consists of well-known brand names (AP Valves ``Buddy`` BCD`s + Spiro & Sherwood Regs, Beaver Wet Suits) and all is meticulously maintained. On-site lock-up cages mean you can store all your equipment with peace of mind.
We take our diving responsibilities pretty seriously here at Seastar, but fun is also the name of the game - we want you to enjoy yourself. We aim to combine a professional standard of instruction and recreational diving in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.
We have taught many Divemasters and Instructors over the years, some are still based in Jordan or you may find them in other dive centres around the world, from Thailand to Egypt, to Malta, to the UK and....
No matter how long your stay in Aqaba; we can introduce you the world of diving! Whether you have just 1 day or more, you can leave with a scuba diving certification; even with only one dive!
Here`s some descriptions of our courses:
*ADVENTURE DIVER/ADVANCED OPEN WATER
Interested in continuing education? Both courses develop your underwater skills and give an idea of specialties, but the content of each course varies to accommodate differing interests. Either course consists of 2 core dives; navigation and deep. Elective dives (1 for Adventure, 3 for Advanced) with many to choose from incl: Night, Drift, Reef Diver, Multilevel, Search & Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Photography, Wreck Dive.
*Emergency First Response (EFR)
To meet requirements for completing the PADI Rescue Diver certification, you must also have completed the PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) course, or another approved CPR course within the last 3 years. Although you can complete the EFR course before, during or after Rescue training, it is recommended that this take place prior to commencing the Rescue course. The course is designed to teach you the same first aid and CPR methods and procedures used by paramedics and doctors. Non-divers may also enroll in this course as it is not ``diver`` specific.
*RESCUE DIVER
The PADI Rescue Diver course prepares the diver to help prevent and manage diving emergencies. Preparing you for the next step of Divemaster or Master Scuba Diver, the course will improve your confidence and diving skills. Divided into two sections, theory and open water training, the Rescue Diver course includes topics such as self rescue, diver stress, first aid, equipment problems and emergency management. A must for any responsible diver. A prerequisite for this course is an internationally recognised First Aid qualification.
*DIVEMASTER
If you`re interested in advancing your love of diving to a professional level, the PADI Divemaster programme is the gateway to professional level dive status.
...You`ll find full list of courses on our website.
Location description: The instructors at Seastar are continually exploring and surveying the dive area and we currently offer more than 30 fully mapped dive sites. Aqaba offers some great shore diving; no long surface swims, or scrambling over rocks! One step into the water and your dive starts immediately as the reefs start practically at the water`s edge, making it an ideal environment for divers and snorkellers alike.
The newest dive sites are those being explored for TEC diving.. watch this site for news of these dives and courses....
One of our most popular dive sites is the wreck of the Cedar Pride, a freighter sunk in 1985, now forming an interesting man-made reef. There is also an Anti Aircraft Tracked Vehicle - The Tank, in 6m by Oliver`s Canyon.
The reefs in Aqaba support many unique species, Frog Fish, Ghost Pipe Fish, Harlequin Shrimp and Seahorses! A truly unique eco-system, we have something to interest everyone, from beginners to more advanced divers.
Aqaba is particularly rich in the variety of soft corals, and the coral reef in general is in excellent condition, compared to other more popular dive destinations in the Red Sea. We so far have not been inundated by mass diving tourism!
Turtles and large pelagic fish are sighted frequently and whale sharks often appear during June/July. There are multitudes of small tropical fish such as damsels, sergeant majors, clown fish, etc. and delicate seahorses.
The larger fish species include groupers, batfish, angelfish, parrot fish, jacks, tuna, and the occasional barracuda, white tip shark, mantas and sunfish. Turtles, eels, octopus and crustacean are plentiful. Look very carefully among the grass during your safety stop and at many sites you will be rewarded with a seahorse sighting.
