Company description In 1981,some enthusiasts started a school in Lebanon: The National Institute for Scuba Diving in Lebanon (NISD). The school reopened its doors for good in 1993 as the war was finally over. Operating all year round and without any interruptions, NISD has certified over 1300 divers.
The school and dive center operates with 2 dive boats, the Sea Dweller (30 ft) and the Dive Trek (33 ft), each equipped with an emergency Dan oxygen case, a complete Medic first aid kit and a state of the art electronics; depth finders, GPS., and VHF Radios for a continuous contact with our dive base for full land support.
Our filling station by L&W has been upgraded to fill all gas mixtures with an excellent reliability in speed and in air quality control, making it one of the best filling stations in the country.
We offer here at NISD the best Scuba Services. Our Services range from air fills, equipment repairs, equipment rentals, fun dives, technical dives, training, and Local as well as International Dive Trips.
Air Fills: we have the best air filling services on the Lebanese coast. We`ve got the best and up-to-date compressors providing a wide range of air fills (Air, Nitrox, pure Oxygen, travel mixes, all technical deep dive mixes)
Equipment Repairs: From Ultrasonic cleansing to regular equipment repairs, NISD provides its divers with the best repair and check-up services. Our staff is experienced to service your regulators (first/second stage), SPGs, BCDs, tanks, and a wide range of computers (we are the official dealer and service center of Dive Rite Nitek computers and diving equipment).
We are specialized in repairing dry suits. Having your dry suit`s rubber sleeves and neck changed by our experience personnel. With NISD, expect nothing but the best.
Equipment rentals: At NISD you don`t need to have your own diving equipment to be able to dive. We provide you with tanks, fins, booties, weight belts, wet suits, BCDs, regulators, and masks. A swim suit and a towel is all you need to dive with us. However, we do not rent dive computers because we strongly believe that a dive computer is a personal diving equipment.
NISD works with ScubaStation for all its diving equipment.
Fun Dives: All around the year, our boats are loading and unloading divers from various diving locations. ``Shark Point``, ``Submarine``, and ``Sting Ray Reef`` are some of the various dive sites that you hear among our divers. We have 2 dive tours a day.
Location description: Even more mysterious are the shipwrecks, especially if you are aware of the stories behind them. The Mediterranean is littered with wrecks, although some are strictly for the technical divers. The Lebanese coast however, offers a few interesting ones. The Souffleur, a French Vichy submarine, met its match in WWII, and sank in front of Khalde, 36 meters deep. It had engine problems, and was forced to recharge its batteries during the day.
An easy target for the British submarine Parthian. Of the 50 sailors, only 4 came out alive. The English sub never made it back to base either and sank on their way back home.
Learning how to dive is not a time consuming business. If you feel comfortable swimming in a pool, you should be able to enjoy scuba diving. With little time on your hand, you can become a certified diver. Once you do, Lebanon will have twice as much to offer.
Professional training is a must however. The National Institute for Scuba Diving (NISD) is the oldest school in the business, with a high commitment to safety and education. Supervised by the school director with 24 years of experience and over 4500 dives, our instructors are skilled in introducing you to the marine environment in a responsible and enjoyable way. Apart from the local license, we work with the biggest diving institutes in the world: PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors), TDI (Technical Diving International) and IANTD (International Association of Nitrox & Technical Diving).
