*The Waubuno
The Waubuno, perhaps the most famous wreck around the Parry Sound area, is somewhat of a mystery. On November 22, 1879, the Waubuno set sail for Parry Sound loaded with freight and passengers, never to arrive in port.
The following spring a washed up hull was found, although no bodies were ever recovered. There is actually speculation that this wreck is not the Waubuno.
*The Jane McLeod
Built in 1868, the schooner Jane McLeod, the vessel ran aground on what is now know as McLeod Island on the night of November 4, 1890. The Captain and crew were stranded on the island for five days waiting to be rescued.
*The S.S. Atlantic
The Atlantic, resurrected from the hull of the Manitoulin, burned on November 10, 1903. No lives where lost, although in it`s previous incarnation as the Manitoulin, 30 people perished on May 18, 1882 when the ship caught fire.
Although the majority of the ship was burned or has collapsed, many interesting pieces of the vessel remain; including the 706 ton wooden propeller, the rudder, the boiler, engine and other interesting machinery.
*The Seattle
The Seattle, built in Michigan in 1892, was grounded on a desolate shoal, becoming a total loss on November 11, 1903.
The wreck lies scattered, although the boiler can be easily found in calm weather.
*The Ella Ross
Originally named the Gypsy in 1873 in Montreal, the vessel was rebuilt in Kingston in 1880, and renamed the Ella Ross.
The Ella Ross caught fire while in dock at Parry Sound Harbour, and burned to a complete loss. The remains of the hull sit at the bottom of the heavily traveled Parry Sound Harbour.
