Company description What is the Ajax Scuba Club?
The Ajax Scuba Club is a ``not for profit`` organization made up of local recreational SCUBA divers. We have been providing services to our members in the Durham Ontario area since 1975.
We have approximately 100 + members, and are run by a democratically elected executive made up of Club members.
What does the Ajax Scuba Club do?
We provide SCUBA diving training suitable for all skill levels. Everything from NAUI entry level full certification courses to senior leadership level programs (e.g. NAUI Divemaster).
We also offer non certification courses for our members (e.g. 1st Aid, CPR, Oxygen Administration, Underwater Archeology, Ship Building Workshops, etc.). Virtually anything of interest to our members.
We organize supervised diving events, including: shore diving; charter boat diving; and dive trips outside Ontario. Our members have access to one of the most comprehensive dive schedules in southern Ontario!
We organize social events of interest to our membership. Everything from a family picnic to a car rally.
What is NAUI?
NAUI stands for the National Association of Underwater Instructors.
NAUI is an internationally recognized recreational SCUBA training agency (i.e. non commercial).
NAUI defines the course standards for the programs we teach, as well as providing materials and support to our instructors.
We have chosen to offer NAUI training because we believe it is the most complete, highest quality training available to sport divers today.
What kind of diving does the Ajax Scuba Club do?
We engage in recreational diving. As such, we practice ``no decompression`` diving within the established sport diving limits. We do not practice technical or mixed gas diving, with the exception of Nitrox (we don`t feel there`s anything wrong with Technical Diving as such, its just not our ``bag``).
You can find us visiting some of the best wreck sites in southern Ontario, ``scrounging`` for old bottles and ``junk`` in the 1000 Islands, or enjoying the amazing beauty of a Caribbean coral reef. Almost anyplace you can get wet has something to offer!
We are very much focused on safety. As such, all Club diving events are supervised by Divemasters and Rescue Divers. Our Club Divemasters are fully trained and equipped to deal with any emergency situation.
We`re very proud of our spotless safety record, and work hard to keep it that way.
What other services does the Ajax Scuba Club provide its members?
Besides access to the diving activities, continuing education, and social events mentioned above, we offer low cost equipment rentals and free air fills to members for any club diving event.
We also publish a news letter at regular intervals full of information of interest to our members.
Where does the Ajax Scuba Club meet?
Our facilities are located at the Ajax Community Centre in Ajax Ontario.
Club members meet Thursday evenings prior to a scheduled club dive, and Tuesday evenings following.
We have a general membership meeting in the fall at which time we elect our executive, and a second in the spring when we book our dives for the season and renew our membership.
What does it cost to become a member of the Ajax Scuba Club?
$50.00 / year including OUC (Ontario Underwater Council) membership.
There is no charge for your first year of membership in the club when you take our NAUI Scuba Diver course.
Who can join the Ajax Scuba Club?
Divers already certified by a recognized SCUBA training agency.
Uncertified divers who register to take our NAUI Scuba Diver Course (membership is included when you learn to dive with our club).
Anyone who wants a non diving / social membership.

Club Mission Statement
The Ajax Scuba Club provides an avenue to dive in a safe and organized environment. The club organizes a full summer dive schedule for dive sites ranging from novice to advanced. Our dive charters are designed so that a newly certified diver can dive with more experienced divers to gain confidence in an atmosphere that focuses on safety. Every charter will be run by a divemaster who can give briefings on divesites and introduce new divers to boat etiquette and dive protocol.
Spring General Meeting
The Spring Meeting is where you sign up for your dives. Prior to the meeting you will receive information describing the seasons’ dives and the dates that they occur. The dives are rated novice, intermediate and advanced based on their depth, current, visibility etc. After reading about the various dive sites, you can initially sign up for three dives that would be appropriate for your diving skill level. If you are unsure if a dive is appropriate for you, don’t hesitate to ask a club executive member. Once everyone has signed up, another round of sign-ups will be allowed. As space is limited on some dives, overbooking is solved through a ballot process. A waiting list for each dive is then compiled for overbooked dives in the event a diver cancels their position on the dive. When all the dives have been filled, you will give your deposit for those dives you are booked on, as well as a post dated cheque for the balance. Remember to bring a pen and your chequebook to the meeting! Some dive weekends like The OUC Treasure Hunt and Prescott are unlimited in their space.
Gear Rentals
If your a new diver, you may not own all your own gear. The club has its own tanks, b.c.’s and regs to rent to members. The weekend rental prices are far below what you will find at dive shops. Renting provides a good way to try various gear before deciding what to buy.
Air Fills
The club operates its own compressor so that members can get free airfills on any club dives. Airfills can be obtained at the ASC “backroom” on Thursday nights prior to a dive weekend.
Social Events
In addition to diving, the club also organizes non-diving social events throughout the year like bowling nights, toboganning and white water rafting events. These events will be posted in newsletters throughout the year.
Dive Trips
Almost every year a dive trip has been organized beyond the usual weekend dives. Past trips have included Cape Anne, Massachusetts, Escoumin, Quebec and Alpina, Michigan.
Training
Our training director also books courses for members who are interested in advancing their certification beyond basic open water. Courses ranging from Open Water Advanced up to Divemaster are available through the club.
Weekend Dives
During weekend dive charters, camping accommodation is another detail which is organized by the club. In an attempt to keep the dive weekends affordable, we prebook group camping sites which can accommodate both trailers and tents. Having the club stay together on site allows for pre-dive briefings and buddy teams to be arranged. Its also a good way for new members to meet the rest of the club at the evening campfires.
Fall General Meeting
The Fall Meeting is another time when the club membership can get together to discuss club business and bring up positive and negative notes that occurred during the past dive season. More importantly, this is also when elections are held for the Club Executive. If your interested in volunteering, or learning how the club functions, get involved and help the club.
Club Executive
If as a member, you ever have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact an executive member. Their phone numbers are usually published in the newsletter. Their e-mail addresses are also published at the club website. www.ajaxscubaclub.on.ca
PLEASE NOTE

If you have rented gear from the club, please return it properly rinsed and dry.
When going to the back room for airfills or rentals, please do not park in the handicapped parking areas.
