Company description Our Club established in 1957, The Etobicoke Underwater Club Inc. (EUC) of Toronto remains one of the oldest and largest scuba diving clubs in Ontario. The EUC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching and promoting the sport of scuba diving and snorkeling in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle aided by a strong social network. The diversity of our members remains one of our biggest assets and includes: business professionals, fire fighters, police officers, doctors, students and retired couples.
In addition to providing training and education for new divers, the club offers advanced dive training for certified divers. We present structured teaching scenarios that allow students to learn the sport hands-on, in a relaxed environment; ensuring that safety remains our top priority. The club proudly maintains an unscathed record of never having a serious diving accident since it began. We offer certification in many specialties allowing you to rise in the sport at your own pace. Our highly qualified instructors have countless years of diving experience and many levels of diver instructor certifications. Many remain very active in the industry not only in teaching, but other facets of the sport such as awareness groups and publishing diving literature.
Our active participation in the community continues to remain strong due to club involvement in environmental events such as: shore clean up activities, marine conservation efforts, mall displays, safety workshops, and fundraising for charitable organizations. We strive to improve not only the sport we love so much but the community as a whole. The club operates all year round and all of the organization`s administrative and training duties are performed by dedicated unpaid volunteers who give up their time to open a whole new underwater world to others.
Our Facilities:
our facilities are part of what makes our club great. The pool was recently renovated and completely rebuilt. The deep end is almost 14 feet deep. Perfect for testing your dive gear.
The change rooms are clean and roomy enough for all your gear. There are also showers available for your use.
Our classroom facilities offer room for as many as 30 students. We have several teaching aids to facilitate your learning including: overhead transparencies, Power Point presentations, hand-outs and films.
Our equipment will exceed your requirements. Thanks
to a government grant, we were able to

Location description: Most people do not realize what an amazing place Ontario is to dive if wrecks are what you are after. True, if you happen to be looking for colourful reefs and exotic fish, you would definitely be in the wrong place unless you consider bass, perch and sunfish to be exotic.
However, this area is home to the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, called the Great Lakes. For over a century these waterways have been like highways for transporting people and merchandise, and thanks to severe storms, underwater obstacles, and the occasional seriously fatigued vessel, many times those ships failed to make it to their intended destination. How many wrecks lie at the bottom of these five lakes? No one knows for sure but experts estimate it to be in excess of 4,000.
The Great Lakes are so large, they do not warm much even in mid-summer. It is possible to drop below 40 degrees below 100` while it is above 70 degrees closer to the surface (and over 100 degrees above it.
Some diving instructors here say, ``If you can dive in Canada, you can dive anywhere.`` To a certain degree they are not far from the truth. Diving in Ontario requires dealing with low visibility, cold temperatures, strong currents, and the weight of additional gear. However, the amazing wrecks are kept in pristine condition due to the cold water more that make up for the difficulties.
Having said that, it is no mystery why dry suits are popular when diving the Great Lakes. There are no special equipment requirements to dive in Ontario, but there are some vital recommendations. Aside from diving the shallows in summer you will likely want a full 1/4 mm wetsuit with hood and gloves. Tropical regulators are not going cut it when the water gets chilly because they have a tendency to free-flow, so be sure they`re rated for the cold stuff.
Visibility in the Great Lakes was horrid not all that long ago, but thanks to the accidental introduction of filter feeding zebra mussels (small clam-like beasties up to 3/4`` long), viz can now reach 100` or more on a good day. They grow on virtually everything, including each other, and are routinely several inches thick. They are a mixed blessing: the water is clearer so one can see the wreck, but the wreck is hidden by the zebras, so you can`t see the wreck. Some experts have theorized that the freshwater sponge may battle the zebras, but it will take decades to have an impact. Algae blooms during late summer can also do a great job of destroying visibility but you can usually escape it by diving below about 50` where it will be clearer but dark.
The cold, fresh water has done an amazing job of preserving shipwrecks, wood and steel alike.
Interested in diving some of the most amazing wrecks you ever seen? Want to learn about our forefathers and the struggles they endured? Have a passion for adventure and freedom? Then Ontario diving is for you. Come join us as we explore all this area has to offer.
