Company description
The Ontario Underwater Explorers (OUE), has access to the Etobicoke Olympium pool which boasts a deep end of 16 feet. We use the pool to keep in shape by swimming, snorkeling, trying out new gear and maintaining skills. We also use the pool for training courses.
We have a very exciting summer full of dive weekends in various locations throughout Ontario.
The OUE annually hosts a SCUBA SWAP and Sale in April in Etobicoke. This is an event you don`t want to miss! Learn how to become a volunteer for the SWAP.
During the winter months, most divers hibernate or go down south to do their diving; but there are a few members that find some open water and make the dive season last all year. This is our Once-a-Month Club for those die-hards.
The Ontario Underwater Explorers has a newsletter,Dive In!, that is published a few times a year.
We also offer training and courses.
There are several instructors in our club who teach various levels of SCUBA. Courses offered range from the basic open-water course, rescue diver, and advanced diver.
Any person completing a club course will receive over 50% off their first year membership fee to the OUE. That`s a great deal!
New members are always welcome!
Your yearly membership dues entitle you to several benefits:
*You may use the 16-foot deep pool at the Etobicoke Olympium every Thursday night during our weekly swim time.
*You`ll also get to reserve space on our dive charters, which are arranged well in advance and occur about every other weekend from June to September.
*The club publishes a newsletter, Dive In! , several times a year.
*You can volunteer to help out at our annual SCUBA SWAP and sale. Great deals are available on new and used gear.
*Your dues also includes membership in the Ontario Underwater Council, which is a non-government body looking out for the best interests of the SCUBA diver. This also includes a limited liability diving insurance.
Every year, usually in the fall, the Ontario Underwater Explorers SCUBA club holds its Annual General Meeting. The club executive reports on past operations, as well as what`s in store for the following year. Executive member positions are nominated and voted for by club members.
We have members that have been recently certified to those that have logged over a thousand dives. We are not associated with a dive store, so there`s no pressure to buy gear.
Location description:
A once-a-month dive means that you have to dive for at least 10 minutes at a minimum 10 foot depth, once a month. And this does not include a dive at the pool (that`s cheating!). This `mini-club` has those few hard-core members who have managed to do it for a few consecutive years, but many members try it for more than a couple of months.
It`s hard to find decent open-water locations around Toronto especially during the winter months of November to March, but we`ve never failed. The record so far is 116 months!
Often times the visibility is very poor and the places are almost too shallow to dive, and it can be horribly cold outside! Non-divers and divers alike, can not comprehend the fact that we dive, of all seasons, during the winter. But it`s fun!
Here are some of the many visited locations:
