Company description
Located in the heart of Tobermory Ontario, Divers Den is your complete scuba diving shop. We pump clean air from our state of the art compressor and storage bank. Air purity is tested regularly by Maxxam Analytics. Our system is large enough to fill 10 tanks at a time plus we provide custom Nitrox mixes.

We offer scuba training from basic open water to advanced technical courses in either private or semi-private groups. Whatever your needs, we can meet your requirements.
If you have been diving for some time and would like to try something different if or would just like to expand your diving skills and education, consider our wide range of Specialty Courses.
As a full service dive shop, we have all of the equipment you need for a safe and enjoyable dive experience.
Our courses offer an exciting way to further advance your diving skills in a variety of specific areas. A small amount of reading and knowledge review is required prior to each dive. However, the majority of the course is spent in actual diving situations.

Location description:
A number of factors have combined to make Tobermory ``The Shipwreck Capital of Canada``. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Tobermory was a busy and important port for both the timber and fishing trade. We also have two deep and sheltered harbours that made us an ideal refuge during storms. That, combined with the treacherous waters of Lake Huron and primitive navigation of that day, meant that many ships met their doom on the way to Tobermory.
Today, our outstanding visibility, relative lack of zebra mussel development and excellent scuba diving infrastructure make us a premiere diving destination.
Sweepstakes
The Sweepstakes was stranded near Cove island and towed to Big Tub Harbour but sunk before it was completely salvaged. While a small portion of the stern deck has collapsed, most of the hull, deck, centreboard, windlass and some of the railing is still intact and in place. The hold could easily and safely be penetrated but Parks Canada has installed barricades to prevent divers swimming under the deck to prevent damage to this fragile wreck. This is an excellent wreck where the water conditions are always a little calmer and warmer than most other sites. As can be seen in the pictures above, the wreck is in shallow, clear and protected water.
City of Grand Rapids
At the turn of the 20th century, the mainstays of Tobermory were fishing and timber. As a result, everything was built with and heated by wood (including the boats). On occasion, a boat would catch fire. In those days, they made no attempt to fight boat fires at the dock. If they were unsuccessful, it was likely that the docks and adjacent buildings would also be destroyed by fire. Therefore, they usually tied a tow line to a burning ship and towed it out to sea to allow it to burn itself out.
The City of Grand Rapids was a grand passenger ship docked in Little Tub Harbour when she caught fire. As per the custom, she was towed out into Georgian Bay until the tow line burned and the burning ship floated free. The east wind blew her into Big Tub Harbour where she ran aground, burned to the waterline and sank.
Today, only the timbers from the bottom of the hull remain. Parts of the steam engine, crankshaft, the boiler, propeller shaft and coupling are present. The rudder and the propeller are on display outside the St. Edmunds Township Museum. This wreck is located 100 feet off the bow of the Sweepstakes. Both wrecks can easily be seen on one dive.
Lighthouse Point
Lighthouse Point is an excellent shore dive located at the end of Big Tub Road. This is the most popular site for Open Water check out dives and offers good sheltered diving for all levels of experience. Look for lots of crayfish, bass and interesting geological formations.
