School Course Learn to Dive
Technical Diving
Company description
Flamingo Divers is dedicated to teaching students how to use scuba gear properly and experience the exhilaration of SCUBA diving. We are SCUBA diving instructors, and not in the business of selling masks, fins and snorkels. (we can, however, help you select these items, but teaching you how to use them properly and
safely is our business).
After years of diving ourselves, we have experienced numerous environments and situations that the average diver may not have. As a result, all of our teaching methods are based on ``worst case`` scenarios.....We will teach
you all of the ``little tricks`` that we have found to make your diving more enjoying and trouble free (Why not learn how to deal with novel situations when first learning rather than altering your techniques later!!) All of our rental gear has been purchased with the local diving environment in mind. Our regulators are environmentally sealed for the cooler Alberta waters, and any gear that we may help you purchase, will be with the local diving conditions in mind. Now you can start out with the ``proper`` gear first, rather than having to replace gear later!
Flamingo Divers..... Your PADI SCUBA diving professionals.
Ever wondered what it
would be like to breath underwater? There`s no better way to experience the exhilaration of SCUBA diving than to enroll in one of Flamingo Divers DISCOVER SCUBA experiences. All you need is a pen, swimsuit and towel.....we`ll supply all the rest. Your experience begins with a short classroom session, where we familiarize you with SCUBA diving and SCUBA gear, then its into the water to learn some skills, culminating with your SCUBA ``dive`` to the deep end of the pool. Finally, relive the experience over a quick snack at a local restaurant. What a great way to spend an evening. Anyone 12 years or older is welcome.
Flamingo Divers will provide to all students:
12 hours of pool and 15 hours of academic training
A PADI Open Water Diver manual and dive slate
(to keep)
Scuba gear(Tank, reg, BCD) for pool use
Two days of open water training
Scuba gear and Full wet
suit, hood and gloves (plus additional weight needed) for all open water dives
Log book
PADI Open Water Diver certification card after completion of the course.
The most FUN PACKED new experience that you have yet encountered! All students must provide:
Their own mask, snorkel, booties, fins and weight belt with ``pool`` weight, for the class. We believe that by practising with your own ``snorkeling gear`` in the pool, you will become familiar and comfortable with these personal items and will have a much more enjoyable experience. Staff of Flamingo Divers will certainly assist you with your selection of appropriate gear suitable to your individual needs.
RESCUE COURSE
The most fun that you will ever have wearing SCUBA gear will be on the RESCUE course. After completing PADI Adventures in Diving, your Rescue course will consist of 2 classroom sessions (conducted over 2 mornings at the lake, followed by a multiple choice exam) and your participation in 12 diving accident scenarios. Here, as well as realizing the full extent of the dive skills that you already posses (but never thought you did), you will learn how to handle various accident situations and how to effectively interact with other individuals in a efficient manner. The rescue class is conducted over one weekend, late in August or early in September at Twin Lakes (near Winfield or Pigeon Lake). The completed knowledge reviews from the PADI Rescue manual must be completed before arriving at the dive site.
DIVEMASTER
Upon completing the PADI divemaster course you have become a PADI professional. You are an integral part of the PADI educational team,
teaching the world to dive, while bestowing your exuberance and enthusiasm
to all of those new divers who now wear the booties that you once wore as a student.

After experiencing the
exhilaration of your 4 open water dives, you may wish to continue your training with PADI`s ADVENTURES IN DIVING program. Here, through instruction in specific areas of diving, you become more confident in your diving skills. Flamingo Divers offers this course, on average, once a month. We meet at Lac Beauvert (see map) in Jasper on Friday night, where we conduct a NIGHT dive (watch out for golf balls on the bottom!!!). 8 AM Saturday comes and finds us at Lake Annette (remember your open water dives) where we partake in a relaxing ALTITUDE dive. Here we review, all of the special rules we use when we dive at altitude. The afternoon sees us towing unique looking floats around Lake Annette, conducting a NAVIGATION dive. You experience the necessity of diving with a compass and a few tricks to navigating around the lake. Weather conditions dictate the schedule for Sunday. If all is well (and we have availability of a boat) we venture to Patricia Lake to dive on the historical site ``Habbakuk``.... a sunken WW2 barge prototype. Here a DEEP dive from 60 to 90 feet is conducted, and after a short surface interval, a WRECK dive, where you obtain a personally guided tour of the wreck. If this dive site is inaccessible, our deep dive will be conducted in Lac Beauvert, followed by a SEARCH AND RECOVERY dive, where you will (by various search methods) locate sunken objects in the lake and float some to the surface using an air bag. This program involves no formal classroom sessions, as all teaching is conducted at the lake. The students MUST, nevertheless, come to the lakes prepared for these weekend dives. ALL KNOWLEDGE REVIEWS for those selected elective dives MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO THE STUDENT ENTERING THE WATER. As you are experiencing new situations, you will also need some ``specialized`` gear.
