Company description
In 2001 Rec & Tek SCUBA was born.
Mitch Wilson began teaching courses at this time out of his home to many students that had taken courses with him in the past.
The retail SCUBA Diving Store officially was founded in April of 2002, which then became a corporation company called Rec & Tek SCUBA Inc.
Mitch Wilson is the sole owner of Rec & Tek SCUBA Inc. Mitch has been certified as a NAUI Open Water SCUBA Diver since September 1995. Mitch first became a professional in diving when he became a PADI Divemaster in March of 1998. Now he is certified and insured as an Advanced ACUC SCUBA Instructor, a TDI Technical Instructor, and also an SDI SCUBA Instructor.
At the diver level Mitch is a certified Technical Nitrox/Decompression Techniques Diver and Technical Wreck Penetration with NAUI. He also logs several pleasure and training dives per year.
Mitch has also dedicated a great deal of his personal time to develop and write a Low Impact Diving course. This specialty course has been approved and encompassed in SDI, ACUC, and PADI practice to encourage and train divers to be more conscious while diving on preserved wrecks.
Mitch is also one of the co-founder’s of a local dive club called “Hamilton Area Divers’ Association†(HADA). He has held positions on the executive including President, Vice-President, and is now currently the President.
We are able to teach and certify students with different levels of SCUBA Diving from basic recreational Open Water through to Instructor level. On the Technical side, we can teach from basic Enriched Air Nitrox to Advanced Trimix and Technical Wreck Penetration. With 6 Instructors on board, our team can instruct in all levels of diver training with 5 of the largest training agencies in the world which are NAUI, PADI, ACUC and Hamilton’s only SDI and TDI training facility.
At Rec & Tek SCUBA Inc. on all of the aluminum cylinders that we service, a machine is used to perform visual inspections called “Visual Plus†from Advanced Inspection Technology. With this advanced inspection machine, we can detect hairline cracks in the necks of cylinders. During visual inspections cracks that are not visible to the human eye are found using eddy currents to detect the smallest imperfections.
Rec & Tek SCUBA Inc. carries most major scuba and snorkeling lines of equipment. Our qualified technicians are able to service the lines and you the best we possibility can. We have certified regulator repair technicians for such brands as Zeagle, Apeks, Sea-Quest, Genesis, U.S. Divers, Dacor, Aqua-Lung, Sherwood, Oceanic, Aeris, Scubapro, and ISI.
At Rec & Tek SCUBA Inc. we use 3 filters on our compressor system; therefore our air is Hyper-clean, which is the cleanest air for breathing. Our filters are changed every 200 hours with quality filters purchased from a compressor specializing company.
Our Compressor is a 9.5 cubic feet per minute Bauer model purchased from a Vaughan, Ontario Fire Department in February 2003. We use high quality synthetic oil in the compressor, which is changed every 250 hours on the machine.
We have over 10,000 cubic feet of air on hand which gives us the capability to fill up to 7 SCBA/SCUBA bottles at one time including a 45 foot fill whip, up to a maximum pressure of 5,000 psi.
The air is tested semi-annually by a Ministry of Labour approved testing facility to assure that the quality of air we are using in our system for SCBA surface supply air tanks and SCUBA cylinders, meets proper standards. We would like to say that we take pride in maintaining our filling station by ensuring the air is as pure as it can be. We can assure the quality of the air, as it is the airs we breathe while Scuba Diving also.
We look forward to providing you quality service.
