Sharky`s is a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) 5-star dive and instructor development centre providing all levels of training year-round. Our instructor-to-student ratio is high, with extra hands always available to provide one-on-one instruction to students requiring extra attention.
Unlike other dive training companies, your course fee includes high-quality rental equipment for all pool sessions and even includes a wetsuit for your open water dives. There are no extra purchases required for you to discover scuba.
To extend the life of your equipment and to minimize the chance of diving accidents, it is critical that your equipment be in top working order for every dive. Whether you own just a mask, snorkel and fins, or a complete set of scuba gear, every diving dollar you invest will be maximized through proper equipment maintenance procedures and annual servicing.
The technical aspects of maintaining, storing, transporting and handling scuba equipment must be part of every diver`s fundamental knowledge of the sport. Each year, too many diving excursions are upset by last minute equipment malfunctions, by a lack of spare parts for field repairs, or simply by a lack basic knowledge regarding the operation of scuba equipment.
Sharky`s offers key support in the subject of equipment selection, repair and maintenance, dealer upgrades, and safety and education. We carry a large selection of spare parts and our certified technicians perform a variety of in-shop repairs. Our visual tank inspection programs and equipment overhaul services will keep you diving safely and comfortably all year round.
Sharky`s features Ottawa`s largest selection of equipment and accessories. Our staff can recommend equipment for all levels of diving and will bring you up to speed on the latest technologies. Keep in mind that not all equipment is listed on this site.
Sharky`s stocks a wide selection of masks, flippers, snorkels and accessories for the skin diving enthusiast. Pre-assembled packages are available or you can mix and match your own.An introduction to skin diving course is offered to teach the foundation of all skills and principles involved in this popular sport.
The Skin Diver program is also an excellent pre-training experience for children who want to explore the possibilities of diving but are too young to dive with scuba in the open water or before trying the PADI Bubblemaker program.
Intro to Skin Diving Course | Price: $99
(see course schedule)
During this one evening course you`ll learn about the science of skin diving, the equipment, the environment, problem management, and local area considerations. In addition, you`ll practice techniques of breath holding, water entry, buoyancy, surface swimming, and snorkel clearing.
If you love skin diving, let us show you how to get the most out of it -- whether you`re at the cottage or kicking back in the Caribbean!
Location description: It`s true -- if you get your certifications in Canada, you can dive anywhere in the world with total confidence. No where else will you find such a variety of diving conditions and experiences than right here in the Ottawa, Gatineau, Brockville, Kingston area.
There are plenty of different diving sites -- wrecks, walls, drifts, submerged power stations, locks and other terrestrial structures. Some sites are shore access but many require a boat. Depths are typically 30`, 60` to 100` and real deep. These deep sites and wreck penetrations provide plenty of opportunities for technical diving. The village of Rockport is noted for it`s deep sites -- Rockport Wall to 240` and the wreck of the Jodery starts at 130` and goes to 240`.
Popular shore dives are Rothesay, Conestoga and Prescott docks (for novice and out-of-season dives), Rockport and Lock 21 (which although only 60 feet max depth is an advanced dive due to the poor viz and strong current). Popular boat dives are Wolf Islander, Marsh, Keystorm, Kingshorn, America, Vickery, etc. Architectural sites include various submerged shipping locks and the old Mille Roches hydro-electric generating power house.
One of the most popular local training sites, Morrison`s Quarry
The green/blue water of the quarry reaches a maximum depth of 139 ft with visibility of about 25 ft in the summer to over 100 ft in the spring and fall. There are 2 distinct thermoclines that bring the temperature to 4-5 degrees at the bottom, no matter how hot it is outside.
Winding downwards along the perimeter is the old access road, acting like gigantic steps that spiral down to the bottom. There is a plane at 35` and a tugboat at 60` both purposely scuttled to provide interest for divers. There are also two cars -- one driven over the edge during the shooting of a movie action sequence, and the other driven over the edge by some bone-head car thieves.
Some of the courses:
Open Water Diver Course | Price: $349
Throughout the course, you`ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You will also earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification that is recognized worldwide. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (ocean or lake) dives.
Advanced Open Water Diver Course
Price: $225 includes all gear with Mc1 computer.
This program offers new experiences, new skills, lots of diving and thrilling adventures. Upon successful completion you`ll receive the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This allows you to participate in more advanced diving activities with a maximum recommended depth limit of 30 meters (100 feet) in addition to the qualifications listed for PADI Open Water Divers.
If you`re 15 years of age or older and a PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent, then you`re ready for the Advanced Open Water Diver program.
